That’s the edge of La Carlota air base that Guaidó tried to take over on Tuesday. Armored vehicles at the ready. Traffic still flowing outside.
Maduro is back on state TV, wandering around what appears to be a military base outside #Caracas. He’s seen with top brass of the Venezuelan military.
Maduro is watching plans for a military exercise. State TV tells us that “the future of Venezuela is peace, not war.” The voice over these pictures of Maduro also says that “the world admires Venezuela for its steadfastness”.
Out of around 50 TV channels in my hotel room 18 (!) channels broke into their programming with footage of Maduro.
According to state TV, Maduro is in El Pao, in the Western state of #Cojedes, for a big military show of force and exercise.
Here’s what #Maduro’s military show of force looks like.
State TV, this morning:
Venezuelan police protecting one military HQ in #Caracas. All quiet so far today.
Small peaceful protest in Plaza Jorge Washington.
National Guardsmen protecting La Carlota airbase in #Caracas.
Pro-Guaidó chants here, and these leaflets being handed out.
This, in essence, is Guaidó’s message to the military: “Soldier of Venezuela, these are the people you need to defend.”
And yes, there are a lot of camera here.
Young anti-Maduro protesters blocking a street in central #Caracas.
“We resist as a family.”
It’s now 3 PM here in #Caracas. @jguaido had called for peaceful protests, and they are so far. They are also very small. For now, it feels like their moment has evaporated.

Putin is not excluding a meeting with Zelensky. From the #Luxembourg PM’s spokesperson after the call:
“Putin says negotiations need to advance further before a meeting with Zelensky is possible. Putin says they are not there yet, without however excluding this path entirely."
BREAKING: shots appear to have been fired at George Floyd Square. Quiet now. People still sheltering in place.
We heard a few dozens sounds of what appear to have been shots fired on this block. Everyone sheltered in place. Lots of running. No apparent need for medics. Will update.
From our vantage point we see one broken window, apparently from one of the shots fired. Consensus among reporters here at George Floyd Square was that we heard anywhere between a dozen and two dozen shots fired.
Marcus Jones of Houston makes his first visit to the place where his school friend George Floyd died. He didn’t know it was the anniversary of his friend’s murder. But this was the day he decided to stop his truck on one of his long-distance drives across the country.

The eve of the anniversary of George Floyd’s death.
Court is back in session in the Derek Chauvin trial. The former Minneapolis police officer is in the courtroom, wearing a grey suit and a black mask. Jury selection still set to begin at 9 AM CT.
Jury selection could still be delayed if a higher court decision is made on whether a third degree murder charge will be reinstated. For now, things proceed as set out by the district judge yesterday.
Until 9 AM CT motions can be discussed by attorneys, as is the case right now.
Hello from Minneapolis, and from another building surrounded by fences and barbed wire. The trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin in the killing of George Floyd starts with jury selection this Monday.
