(1/6) One of the reasons why I have such contempt for the phrase "respect the office of the President" is that, in practice, it means just do everything they want you to do no matter how you feel. SO when the President invites you for a visit, people assume respecting...
(2/6) the office means going even if you don't want to go or don't like the person. That, my friends and enemies, is ridiculous. It's a comical standard. So when someone says "no, I'm good", stuffy folks lose it as the individual doesn't respect the office. Huh?!
(3/6) It is much more disrespectful to everyone involved if you show up to a place you don't want to go because you really don't like or respect the person occupying the place and either quietly take up space or try to remain aloof to the entire process. How is that respectful?
(4/6) It's not like a player stomped in mud, then walked right into the office and tracked mud all over the carpet. That would be disrespectful. But not going to an event that is contrived from jump ("we won the championship, this person will give a speech, here is a jersey")...
(5/6) isn't a disrespectful thing. It's having preferences and acting on them. And its nothing short of absurd that we kowtow to the "Office of the President" in this way. This small thing leads to "well if he wasn't POTUS, he would charged for Obstruction of justice." DO better
(6/6) President is just a person who does a job in a public manner. Sometimes a good job, sometimes an awful job. The person isnt a monarch and we aren't in a monarchy. Not going to a thing isn't disrespectful. Grow up and pick another cloud to yell at. #RedSox
Just finished reading this ex-Green Beret Nate Boyer's open letter to Trump, Kaepernick, and America on @ESPN( espn.com/nfl/story/_/id…) and I've really fed up with this notion that Kaepernick and Trump should just talk it out and we just need love to guide our way (1/n)
Kaepernick has been clear from the beginning why he sat then knelt during the national anthem. It was about raising attention to police brutality, specifically, and the inequitable treatment of Black people (and people of color) generally. That's it, thats the list. (2/n).
Trump, the abominably inept miserable lout masquerading as a leader, REPEATEDLY and WILLINGLY ignored all the facts and has constantly used this topic to appeal to people susceptible to racial animus for cheap public appeals and garbage political points in his culture war. (3/n)
I've got a little bit of a rant about baseball stadiums and food to go on. I was at Guaranteed Rate Field to watch the Chicago White Sox and was fortunate enough to be sitting in the 100 level (lower tier). The amount of food options down there are wonderful: pizza, tacos (1/n)
hot dogs, along with other "nicer" options for the people in this level. Great. I've also been in the upper deck 500 level and noticed that the food options are LIMITED! (2/n)
Why does there have to be different food options for folks in the more affordable seating options? It sucked because I wanted the same food options as others. Some may ask "why didn't you go get food in the 100 level and take it to your seat?" (3/n)
