I've got a little bit of a rant about baseball stadiums and food to go on. I was at Guaranteed Rate Field to watch the Chicago White Sox and was fortunate enough to be sitting in the 100 level (lower tier). The amount of food options down there are wonderful: pizza, tacos (1/n)
hot dogs, along with other "nicer" options for the people in this level. Great. I've also been in the upper deck 500 level and noticed that the food options are LIMITED! (2/n)
Why does there have to be different food options for folks in the more affordable seating options? It sucked because I wanted the same food options as others. Some may ask "why didn't you go get food in the 100 level and take it to your seat?" (3/n)
The answer is because they don't (didnt?) allow non-100 level ticket holders onto the 100 concourse. Point is it is really messed up to close off culinary choices to people who are in less expensive seats. Hell, we may spend more money on food bc we saved on tickets (4/n)
It's this type of "small" thing that creates a sense of otherness for attendees at sporting events. This also cuts across racial and class lines like most othering in American culture.

It seems like a needless line to draw at a sporting event. Thanks for reading (5/5)
