Our Bus Station Project welcomed and provided legal orientations to more than 200 families from the detention centers in Dilley, Karnes, Pearsall and the McAllen, Eagle Pass, and El Paso ports of entry last week.
We want to tell you about one of the families.

It's worth telling because it gives you a sense of how they treat us in detention centers, and yet another reason why we should not be detaining people in detention centers.
We met a mother and two year-old daughter who were released from Dilley and were transported to a Children’s Hospital after receiving insufficient medical care while being detained.
When mom took her daughter for a medical check-up inside the detention center, she was informed that her daughter had an infection in one of her lungs and was instructed to give her water.
She was told it would go away in 2-3 weeks and received no treatment. The pediatrician had very different info to offer. The child was again diagnosed with an infection in her lungs, received a breathing treatment & antibiotic to treat pneumonia, and has since been discharged.
Today there are over 50,000 migrants in detention. They are locked up + don't receive adequate medical attention.

This is wrong. Very wrong. It's time we cancel all detention centers.
