Amnesty's @MilenaBuyum reports that Turkish activist Yiğit Aksakoğlu is being released from pre-trial detention, but philanthropist Osman Kavala is being kept in prison.

Both are among 16 being tried in connection with the peaceful 2013 Gezi protests.
This is the court's interim decision.

Context: Erdogan's vilified Mr. Kavala as "Turkey's Soros." The case against him and 15 others highlight the criminalization of protest and dissent there, and the dangers of the demonization of civil society leaders internationally.
It almost goes without saying: Financier and philanthropist George Soros is regularly vilified by the self-styled nationalists like Erdogan, Hungary's Orbán and Trump and his allies in the United States.
