With the powerful mass movement for democracy & accountability in #Algeria/#Algerie reaching a turning point in next 2 days, 7 diverse Algerian personalities launched this video appeal for unity & real dialog: (Thread) tsa-algerie.com/lappel-de-pers…
Of note (& sad), that the good news site TSA that carried this has been banned in #Algeria. But it is on FB & other platforms so it should get wide distribution? It's issued in the name of "Agreement for the sake of protecting the homeland"
The seven people who signed the Agreement are standing together and take turns reading short sections of it. This one just says: "Appeal to the Algerian people"
Then, jurist Fatiha Benabou, the sole woman in this group reads "On the invitation of a group of young people who gathered around the initiative 'Agreement for the sake of safeguarding the homeland-- "
This one: "We the undersigned, we address an appeal to the Algerian people--"
"To guard the peaceful nature of the revolution--"
"-- and its unitey and its popular and nationalist nature__
"and we criticize all forms of deflecting the popular revolution from its peaceful path."
"Just as we criticize the arrests and all forms of violations and political and propaganda [attempts at] weakening it.
"We demand of the current authority that it take all steps and decisions in the direction of calming."
"As a true expression of opening the dialog to escape from the current political impasse... "
"We call on all sectors of the Algerian opeople that they come out, together, all of them, and in force... "
"on our Independence Holiday, which coincides with the 20th Friday of our 'Hirak' (protest)"
"which will be on 5 July 2019... "
"So as to embody the liberation of humankind after the liberation of the land"
"Glory and immortality to our righteous martyrs."
[The names & signatures of those who delivered this statement. Among them is retired diplomat Abdelaziz Rahabi, who on July 6 will be heading a big national dialog conference.]
The short video ends with some historic photos of #Algeria's national independence struggle.

This is a truly outstanding study from @CIPonline's @BenFreemanDC & colleagues of how BAD military spending is at creating actual, you know, jobs: lobelog.com/more-money-few… (Thread)
@CIPonline @BenFreemanDC@WorldBeyondWar@WinWithoutWar@AFSCpeace Trump, like many pols before him, likes to trumpet the fact that military spending (by the US people, or via Saudi purchases of US weapons systems) is a big job-creation machine. But...
