As you may have heard, the Governor is calling the Special Legislative Session this Friday to address the pension crisis facing quasi-governmental entities.
Quick thread to make sure you are up to date.
As you know, in the 2019 session the supermajority passed pension legislation. Bevin vetoed it. I joined others in pushing for a full, open discussion on this issue, to pass the rate freeze that agencies need, and build a plan to address liabilities and long term sustainability.
That said, the bill Bevin proposes not only threatens the inviolable contract, but it would take away options from hard working Kentuckians, and cost taxpayers (YOU) more $ in the long run.
This is taking a long term challenge and turning it into an immediate crisis.
There are solutions that make the hard decisions we must tackle without robbing workers. We can reach them in a bipartisan way.
However, that seems unlikely if the plan is to have this quick session over the wkend with just a simple majority vote and no full debate.
I’ll be loud this week. You know this.
I’ll be speaking up for our families whose livelihoods are on the line.
I’ll be speaking up for the essential services Kentuckians need.
Please stay engaged. We all must be locked in, because this is directly about our future.

Coming from what has been one of the most disenfranchised states in the country, I personally know how critical it is that we fight voter suppression and break down barriers to the ballot box. (1/4)
As a part of the Corps, you’ll protect voters in a fight for individual rights, collective rights and the future of democracy. And we need your passion to carry us through the most tumultuous election of our lifetimes. (3/4)
I see what this moment means. From the hood to the holler, we spoke up, cried out, and fought like never before.
We didn’t win the race, but we won something much bigger. We inspired new voices to rise up, and led on structural issues that can’t be ignored.
They see us now.
We are sick of generational poverty. We are sick of structural racism, and a status quo that is killing us.
Our common enemy is Mitch. We must beat him, so we can do the real work. I understand that, and am reaching out to @AmyMcGrathKY to discuss how we can truly work together.
Kentucky only has two Black Senators. They both are endorsing me.
I am honored to carry the torch, and I am ready to lead in Washington. (1/4)
In his endorsement, Senator @GeraldNeal33 said, "...The protests and police violence have shown that KY is in need of a new Senator who understands our community and will fight for all Kentuckians... He is the right person, at the right time to defeat Mitch McConnell..." (2/4)
Senator @ReggieThomasKY said, "...I believe Charles is well equipped to bring Kentuckians together and to carry our Commonwealth forward. On behalf of Fayette County and our entire Commonwealth, I strongly give my support to Charles Booker." (3/4)
