"I’m positive that many of the ways I continue to be “sexy” are heavily influenced by misogyny. But it feels good to me, and it’s my damn choice, right?" harpersbazaar.com/culture/featur…
SMH @ this essay. oh boy
i would be very interested in an essay from Emily Ratajkowski on how her being a sex symbol has affected her life! esp around that Blurred Lines video
but this....is not it. this is not it at all
of course it's Emily's choice to be "hyperfemme" or to flaunt her sexiness....but wshe's entirely missing the larger context; sexiness is still very much a demand placed on women
i don't doubt that she has been slutshamed, or not taken seriously because she's so pretty/sexy
but that doesn't mean the culture doesn't valorize female prettiness, or female performance
ugh anyway these kinds of essays are so messy because they stay blurring a whole bunch of issues. but what do i expect from fashion magazines i guess

sometimes when my boyfriend is slow to respond to a text i think ‘well, this is it...he’s ghosting me. he’s never going to reply. had a nice run while it lasted’
i told him about this and he was extremely bemused at this premise. ‘Why would I do that?’
i was talking to my best friend about red flags in online dating
and she came up with a very good one - be wary of anyone who acts like they're misunderstood
"sarcastic asshole with heart of gold" would be the classic one
anyone who projects a "woe is me, the world just doesn't get me, i'm not who i seem" image
i made a very foolish mistake with this myself. i dated a dude who told me "i don't have anyone on my side, the world's always been against me, i'm just misunderstood"
lol. no, the world had got him exactly right. it understood him perfectly
-2 poorly-lit photos of fast food in another city with the caption "Austin you were so good to the boy"
-1 photo of the skyline with a single emoji 💥
-5 photos of streets. no humans visible
-1 photo of them with someone else's dog
if they have a girlfriend of 11 years, there will be a single photograph of her, taken from a bad angle. buried deep in the grid
with the caption "this one is the best for tolerating me. thanks Laur"
(yes girls have some predictable IG patterns as well but i shall not be commenting on those on account of i am a misandrist)
but my darlings, PLS stop captioning ur IG couple pics with the coy "Grand Canyon with this one, i guess he's not so bad"
as for men who post about their girlfriends "thanks to this one for putting up with me"...you ARE the weakest link and WILL be culled come the revolution
there is nothing - NOTHING - as corny as understating your feelings. take it from me
there is no Hallmark caption, no Facebook-poem cliche, quite as pathetic as this undersell
