With the 1.7mil turnout in #HK today, the total number of demonstrators in anti-extradition/anti-govt protests has now surpassed the total population of HK:
So far, 7,564,440 demonstrators have participated in 61 demonstrations.
Astounding: Where else in history have you had the total number of participants in demonstrations exceed the size of the total population where the demonstrations occurred? #HK is truly in a class of its own.
The 1.7mil turnout today is even bigger than the 1.03mil turnout at the 1st mass march on #June9 & rivalled the 2mil on #June16. If anything, in the past 2 months, the movement's grown stronger.
It's been exactly 70 days since the 1st #HK mass march of 1.03mil on #June9. This movement is quickly closing in on the 79 days of the #UmbrellaMovement in 2014, &, w 1.7mil today, it just seems to be getting stronger....
Nothing attests better to the utter failure of the #CCP governance model in #HK than its utter failure- composed of unwillingness & inability- to respond to the #HK protests except by force (HK police, pro-CCP triads), intimidation, threat & propaganda.
#HK people are showing the whole world the limits of #CCP dictatorship. For the sake of #HK, Taiwan, Tibetans, Uighurs & Chinese & not least of all for its own sake, now the world has to fight #CCP influence & stand up for freedom, democracy, human rights & an open society.
Worth noting that the 1.7mil crowd count today doesn't even include all demonstrators. Likewise, the total of 5,840,441 demonstrators who've participated in 61 #HK demonstrations doesn't include 12 demos of tens of thousands where no crowd counts were given
Civil Human Rights Front thanks the 1.7mil #HK people who came out today to demand our basic rights & the fulfillment of our 5 demands, & denounce police brutality & #CCP & HK govt refusal to engage w the vast majority of HK people who want a just society. #香港人加油
CHRF's Aug 31 protest is going ahead. It was planned even before today's. CHRF warns police not to ban that one too. Its tentatively scheduled route: Chater Garden to Liaison Office. Police just might have some objections to the destination, at least. thestandnews.com/politics/%E6%B…
Aug 31 is the 5th anniversary of the National People's Congress Standing Committee decision that effectively rule out genuine universal suffrage for #HK indefinitely. In fact, the #CCP says that decision is permanent, which means it's entirely closed the route to democracy in #HK
