Trump and his administration just announced plans to roll out a new rule that would allow them to detain undocumented children and their parents for an INDEFINITE amount of time in concentration camps. This is an act of white supremacy. buzzfeednews.com/article/adolfo…
The new rule seeks to replace a 1997 court settlement known as the Flores Agreement.
This is just another tactic from white supremacists to open doors that allow them to hurt more Black and brown immigrant communities. #CloseTheCamps#LetOurPeopleGo
Children and adults are already dying at the hands of ICE and CBP in these concentration camps. We talk about it all the time, yet these are only the deaths that we know about. These agencies have a record of hiding deaths from the public eye. #CloseTheCamps
These concentration camps are disgustingly dirty, unsanitary, and altogether uninhabitable places. ICE and CBP choose to keep them this way to torture and abuse the children and adults incarcerated behind their bars. #CloseTheCamps#LetOurPeopleGo politico.com/story/2019/08/…
Indefinite detention = more dead children.
Indefinite detention = more dead parents.
Deciding to detain our loved ones at concentration camps in under the custody of ICE and CBP is an act of white supremacy. It is the death of Black & brown immigrants. #CloseTheCamps#AbolishICE
If you are outraged—we need you.
If you want to protect children & their parents—we need you.
If you want to close the concentration camps—we need you.
Biden promised to end family separation and condemned the previous administration for caging children, yet his administration has continued to expand detention on all fronts, including child detention.
More than a year since President Biden took office, his administration continues to rely on large scale unlicensed influx & emergency intake sites that prolong child detention and expand the detention machine.
Despite widespread coverage of abusive and neglectful conditions at these sites, including even sexual misconduct, the admin doesn’t have real plans to close down these sites. thehill.com/policy/nationa…
In the middle of the night, Congress released the final text for its $1.5 trillion federal funding bill.
This bill
-increases spending for ICE
-maintains CBP funding
-funds to detain 34k people ICE detention
-increases ICE’s falsely named “Alternatives to Detention” by $10 mil
At nearly 3,000 pages, there is not enough space to explain the horrors this bill is proposing to fund.
Point blank - this bill further restricts, surveils, and harms immigrant communities. Do not believe congress members who say this funding is to provide protection and safety
This was an opportunity for Congress to put their money where their mouth is and instead they failed to include any protections for immigrants. This bill funds violence and intimidation.
The House is expected to vote on the bill today, with the Senate following next week.
🚨 HAPPENING NOW: Immigrant leaders are outside the ICE offices in Washington DC demanding @DHSgov and @POTUS STOP all deportations NOW. DHS has full discretion to stop any more deportations from happening and prevent harm in our communities!
Under the Biden administration, ICE & CBP have deported over 26,000 people, including thousands of Black immigrants to countries including Cameroon, Haiti & Jamaica. Immigrant youth will not be silent as these agencies continue to advance their racist & xenophobic agenda.
🚨 URGENT THREAD 🚨
The Trump Administration has announced that they will begin #ICEraids in 10 major cities. They will be targeting those with deportation orders and will likely also take in undocumented people around the areas they are conducting raids. nytimes.com/2019/07/11/us/…
