As Trump defies the Supreme Court on DACA, Republican silence is deafening Image
"For the Trump administration, the ‘rule of law’ is a weapon to wield against people seen as opponents or unwanted. They did not like the SCOTUS decision and now they are defying it." - @douglasrivlin
"This is not just another attack on people of color and immigrants. This is an attack on the Constitutional order. Defying the Supreme Court? They have deepened our nation’s democracy and governance crisis." - @douglasrivlin

The clock ticking ⏰for the Trump Administration to open up DACA to new applicants #HomeIsHere #HereToStay Image

"A sane and politically wise White House would, at a minimum, accept the SCOTUS decision and the public’s verdict and reopen this popular program to all those eligible. But Trump is obsessed with wielding racism and xenophobia as political and cultural weapons." - @FrankSharry

Today, I'm celebrating new laws going into effect in #Virginia. So many people worked hard for YEARS - organizing, educating, advocating, messaging and winning elections for these changes. There are too many to list but here are a *few* of my favorite things (a thread):
✅ Expanded access to voting - no excuse absentee so anyone can vote by mail if they want to, 45-day in-person voting, repealing strict photo ID, AVR and same-day voter registration, making Election Day a state holiday and many more... #VotingRights
✅ Made Virginia a better place for immigrants - allowing everyone to lawfully drive regardless of status, in-state tuition, Office of New Americans, prohibiting law enforcement from asking immigration status of witnesses and victims of crime... #heretostay

Today’s Supreme Court decision blocking the Trump administration’s attempt to tear apart immigrant families is wonderful news. We celebrate with the thousands of DACA recipients who are #HereToStay!…
Immigrants are a part of every community, including the LGBTQ community, and we will continue to resist the racist and xenophobic immigration policies of this administration.

The work continues.
~75,000 LGBTQ immigrants are eligible for DACA. Thousands of LGBTQ immigrants have lived, worked, studied and contributed to our country.

Deportation would mean, for many, harassment, violence, or criminalization resulting in imprisonment or death.

This decision saves lives.

Wow, 7 years.

7 years ago, I remember sitting down by myself in my living room.

I listened as the requirements for #DACA were announced.

Little did I know how my life would change. 1/
To qualify for #DACA my undocumented self needed to find documents that documented my life in the US.

I went to the hospital I had gone to since I was a little girl & asked for my entire medical record. I remember the receptionist’s face when I told her I needed a copy ASAP. 2/
I went to my elementary, middle and high schools, looked through hundreds of photos, documents—everything to prove I have been living in the US since I was 2yrs old.

Fast forward to the day I received my work authorization card. Wow, my first official US gov document. #DACA 3/

.@ICEgov says that their “worksite enforcement strategy continues to focus on the criminal prosecution of employers who knowingly break the law” but, at least in the context of the #TNraid, that’s absolutely untrue. 2/
To date in the #TNraid – the largest worksite raid ICE has conducted since 2008 – @ICEgov has taken no actions against that employer. No assets frozen, no charges, no arrests. The plant is still fully operational and hiring! 3/
