When, if ever, will @DrMANowak and @harvard do something about their unethical association with rapist Jeffrey Epstein - they took his money, propped up his reputation, and now? crickets - read more from @xeni about this:
And also Bach 2015 "I am grateful for generous support by and discussions with Dietrich Dörner, Martin Nowak and Jeffrey Epstein."
And Nowak et al. 2010: royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/pdf/10.109… This work was supported by the John Templeton Foundation, the National Science Foundation/National Institutes of Health joint program in mathematical biology (NIH grant R01GM078986) and by Jeffrey Epstein.
And Allen et al. 2012: scholar.princeton.edu/sites/default/… "This work was supported by the John Templeton Foundation, the National Science Foundation/National Institutes of Health joint program in mathematical biology (NIH Grant R01GM078986) and by Jeffrey Epstein."
So @harvard and @DrMANowak took tons of money from Epstein, much of it AFAIK after he was convicted as a sexual predator and they keep thanking him and thanking him and no apology, no restitution, to return of money - nothing - what a disgrace
Not completely scrubbed but my guess is they have tried to remove any and all references to Epstein while not saying anything, not apologizing, not doing anything
Fortunately, however, we have the internet archive archive.org which has 234 captures of this site: web.archive.org/web/2011051500… and many of these archives put Jeffrey Epstein in a much more prominent position
For example check out this one from June 2011: web.archive.org/web/2011060421… where Epstein's "Profiles in Science" is featured on the front page
Oh and wait - this is rich - @harvard's Program in Evolutionary Dynamics website in 2014 and other years has a "Friends" page with just one person listed - Jeffrey Epstein web.archive.org/web/2014051903…
@Harvard And this creeps me out quite a bit but there are multiple archive of the "Jeffrey Epstein Science Foundation" site that have some other details of Epstein's interaction with scientists web.archive.org/web/*/http://j…
@Harvard Although at some point the domain name was taken over by a spammer - the archive was of the Epstein site at least though 2014
@Harvard Here's more on how, in 2014, the @harvard PED Program in Evolutionary Dynamics described their "friend", known sexual abuser / rapist Jeffrey Epstein web.archive.org/web/2014032919…
@Harvard And of course there is more - in 2011 this from Martin Nowak was on the front page of jeffreyepstein dot org web.archive.org/web/2011072620… - again making it abundantly clear that those who took money from him directly were used to prop up his reputation
Yuck. Cold Spring Harbor Lab meeting "celebrating" 50 years of recombinant DNA is a #manel #YAMMM
With a history of issues in sexism (e.g. Watson) at CSHL this is sad. And bonus featuring Lander w/ his own history of issues as session chair & panel discussion leader
Years ago I routinely felt the need to critique Cold Spring Harbor meetings for their gender bias - eg see --- I had thought they had gotten better in response to critiques but clearly notphylogenomics.blogspot.com/2016/03/if-you…
Remember when Francis Collins made a big deal about how he would "respectfully, or not so respectfully, decline" participation in panels that did not have diverse speakers - pretty clear he is not keeping his promise cc: @AliceParkNY https://t.co/XVgHHpMT8ctime.com/5611142/manels…
"While deaths and hospitalizations are lower thanks to the availability of vaccines and treatments, we invite new risks by ignoring what we have learned after two-plus years and 1 million deaths."
"Reviving mask requirements in certain environments, such as public transportation, large indoor gatherings, certain school settings and workplaces, could reduce transmission without restricting public life."
In this last paper the authors write "We show in our example application that universal use of masks that block 40% of aerosols & the installation of near-ceiling, fan-mounted UVC systems both have the potential to lead to substantial risk reductions .. "
Thank you to the people speaking up against this horrible comment from Kipnis saying that if you critique an institution (like his) after you leave, you are disgusting. Such a bad take.
Going to try to live Tweet this talk at @ucdavis by Frazier Benya on "Sexual Harassment: Where it Thrives and How to Prevent and Address it Within Higher Education"
