For those scratching their heads on this, it isn’t hard. Let’s break down what happened here piece by piece.

First, Trump thought it was a good idea to invite evil Taliban leaders to the US the week of 9/11 in SECRET because he knew it would look TERRIBLE unless he got a deal...
So, as anyone with half a brain could have predicted, the Taliban are (surprise!) evil murderous thugs that killed one of our soldiers and 11 innocent people in advance of the sit down, causing the meeting to blow up in Donald’s face...
Then, to save face and do PR damage control for what surely would have leaked and been a disaster headline for the President around a failed peace talk—he’s now tweeting out this nonsense that it was some brilliant idea of his to cancel the talks...
Who in their right mind wouldn’t cancel the talks now?!? That’s not the question here — and Trump and the GOP politicians who are about to act like it is are playing you for fools when they do.
The reality is, this was a MAJOR blunder by the White House, first and foremost, for inviting the Taliban to US soil in the first place—much less Camp David. They aided and still defend the 9/11 attacks. They are evil and don’t deserve the dignity Trump bestowed on them.
But secondly, it’s an embarrassment for Trump. He thought the Taliban ready to negotiate. He trusted them—and then they killed our soldier and 11 innocent people.

He was wrong—dead wrong—as he has been with Kim & with Putin. He’s terrible at this. Period.
So, don’t let Republicans write this one up as “Oh wow—great decision to cancel those talks, Mr. President! You sure know how to play tough when they kill one of our soldiers! Good goin’!”

That’s pathetic. Have them answer the real question—and if they don’t, vote them out.

The choice between Jonah Goldberg/Steven Hayes and Tucker Carlson/Patriot Purge really feels like the choice between two separate teams at this point—not an intraparty dispute.

We should start to view these choices that way. These are either/or decisions—not both.
Think Trump’s comments and behavior are harmful to the country but open to supporting him in 2024 if he wins the nomination?

Either/or. Not both.
Believe in the rule of law, but don’t think January 6 was a big deal?

Either/or. Not both.

Don’t look now—but the principled are rolling. We’ve got candidates. We’ve got beliefs. We’ve got thinkers & multiple news platforms. And now we’ve fully ditched Fox News. Still early days, but it feels like steps in the right direction. Pick your team: decency or Tucker Carlson.
Who are we? At the highest level, we’re the defenders of liberal democracy & constitutional government in the face of illiberal currents. Nationalists think the only way to win is to grip the levers of power, expand gov’t & wield it against political enemies. We reject that.
We also defend free enterprise and generally believe that individuals and the enterprises they create are innovative and powerful things that have the power to do immense good for the country and the world. We aren’t enemies of the private sector.

I’ll probably never run for office, but if I ever did—my radical idea would be to pay in-classroom teachers $100,000, lengthen the school year, & treat educators like professionals by hiring/firing on merit.

Good teachers create WAY more economic & societal value than we pay.
For perspective, the average teacher salary in Texas is just $59k…
Other ideas:
—Reduce admin staff by 10%
—Tie principal & superintendent compensation to school/district performance improvement; same hire/fire rules apply
—Allow for student funneling/specialization earlier in the K12 cycle.
—Radical transparency on district performance & budget

We’re going to have a serious, systemic public health challenge even after the pandemic. People are now finding purpose & identity in not just ignoring public health guidance & medical advice, but actively doing the opposite just to beat their chests.

We’re weakening ourselves.
When a Congressman tells the country not to trust the FDA, he attacks a key piece of our national security; as when he says not to trust the military.

He’s saying don’t trust America. Institutions built by Americans, staffed with Americans to serve Americans. It’s just awful.
It is one thing to criticize an institution; to reform it; to even get rid of it in favor of an alternative approach. Nothing is perfect and we should always improve things.

But questioning the motivations & aims of these institutions; making them enemies—that’s an attack on us.

Let’s be clear what happened here: Basically, once Trump realized he couldn’t keep secret his support for and coordination of the Jan 6 attack on the Capitol, he just decided to embrace it and call it a protest.
So now, every R will have to either embrace Jan 6 as a valid form of protesting a “stolen” election (as Trump now has) or condemn it as wrong.

Their line has changed so many times. First: Antifa. Then: wrong, but not an insurrection. Then: bad apples but the police let them in.
These are unserious people who are trying to come up with any line that will allow them to stay in good graces with an increasingly deranged base while speaking through the mainstream channels of normal society and institutions.

You know whose line hasn’t changed?

Liz Cheney’s

Look, I’ve been a harsh critic of Trump and Trumpism—but he is absolutely right about this, guys...

Stay home, Republicans. Listen to Trump. Don’t vote. We need to get this sorted out. If your Congressman or Senator is big MAGA, just don’t bother pulling the lever for them.
We need to make sure every Trumper out there hears Trump’s message: DO NOT VOTE.

The leader has spoken. Will you follow? Are you MAGA? Do you have the courage to not vote? Or are you just a big Lib?
We need both parties to come together behind this message. We need mailers and ads with Trump’s words and likeness sent to every MAGA-voting household in the country to be certain they know what Trump is urging.

DO NOT VOTE, MAGA. Be courageous. Abstain.
