قرأت مقالة طويلة حول تطور الهوية اليهودية تاريخيا. كلمة تكررت كثيرا وهي المظلومية، المظلومية، المظلومية... وكيفية التعامل مع المظلومية وكيف تؤثر في الهوية الجمعية
من اليهود اليوم من يتعامل مع إرث المظلومية بأن يقف في صف كل مظلوم. ومنهم - وهم كثر للأسف - من يتعامل مع ذلك الإرث بأن يبرر وينخرط في انشاء منظومة ظلم جديدة.
وما انتهيت من القراءة حتى تذكرت جهاد وشهادة سيدنا الحسين عليه السلام. فرق كبير يا سادة بين هوية مبنية على المظلومية وهوية مبنية على الثورة على كل ظالم.

هربت طيوري حين ضاع امانها
فكأنني شجر بلا أوراق
لكنها همس العراق بمسمعي
يفني الأسى وجبين عزك باقي

Thank you! And repression "works" only when it's combined with a valid, still-functioning social contract. The protests and/or repression are a side show, the real issue is that Sisi has lots his narrative of rule ("I'm here to make Egypt the Mother of the World").
Rule by naked repression *alone*, with no valid promise or contract, is already on its way out, regardless how far it can be tactically extended.
The moment that we saw before our eyes in Egypt cannot be dismissed as just another event. It is absolutely enormous. I'm reserving the full argument for the book.

73 Iraqi protesters have been shot dead by Iraqi security since the start of anti-corruption protests a few days ago. This is a massacre. Even during the recent protests in Sisi's hyper-repressive Egypt we didn't see this.
Perhaps what's worst is the knowledge that there aren't any quick demands that can address the underlying problems for which the protesters rose. Corruption in Iraq is like a cancer in the political system and cannot be solved by shuffling figures.
No doubt, there will be attempts to placate (alongside the repression in the streets). The problem is that we're dealing with a political system of incentives that's so messed up, it cannot be fixed in a few weeks or months or even years. I do not blame any Iraqi for being angry.
