With the aid of automation service IFTTT, we present these incredibly similar yet not entirely identical #TürkMilletiOrdusununYanında tweets. Spoiler: don't click their links.

@ZellaQuixote We searched for tweets linking to nt511(dot)com (the site linked by the aforementioned bots), and found 11 IFTTT bots. Although they were created over a period of eight years, most have few tweets and most of their activity is recent.
@ZellaQuixote The tweets produced by this botnet consist of links to videos and blogs annotated with a slurry of hashtags. Well, they *supposedly* link to videos and blogs. Like we said, don't click their links. . .
@ZellaQuixote Opening either the blog posts or videos linked by these 11 bots quickly leads to a drive-by malware download. We quite frankly have no idea if there even is any video or blog content, as we didn't bother sticking around to find out.

The hashtag #KurdsSideWithTurkey has been circulating since Monday, following the abrupt announcement that US forces would be withdrawing from northern Syria. We dug into it briefly - it doesn't look obviously botty but a couple of aspects are interesting.

@ZellaQuixote The first two accounts to tweet #KurdsSideWithTurkey (@CumhurFrankfurt and @bisimit respectively) also account for a sizable portion of the overall volume - 14.3% of the tweets are retweets of one of those two accounts.)
@ZellaQuixote @CumhurFrankfurt @bisimit The accounts tweeting #KurdsSideWithTurkey were disproportionately created quite recently (18% created in the last 6 months) and unlike most datasets we've analyzed don't show a surge of new account creations in 2009.

We've been experimenting with ways to detect tweetdecking and similar forms of amplification involving coordinated temporary retweets. To this end, we've been monitoring retweets of a few accounts that get disproportionate retweets, including @jacobhueneke.

@jacobhueneke @ZellaQuixote We got an opportunity this morning to observe the early amplification of one of @jacobhueneke's tweets, and indeed 22 accounts retweeted it and then deleted the retweet a few minutes later. The amplification has been effective - 4 hours later, the tweet has over 6000 RTs.
@jacobhueneke @ZellaQuixote The @jacobhueneke tweet isn't the only tweet to be retweeted and deleted by this group of 23 accounts (the 22 that deleted their @jacobhuekene retweet plus @jacobhueneke.) Are the other retweets similarly coordinated?

We went looking for automated accounts linking the official campaign sites of the various 2020 candidates, and ended up hailing a taxi - several of them, in fact. In an amazing plot twist, @BluemontTaxi, @CulpeperTaxiCab, @FlyToDulles, and @LoudounCab are bots.

@BluemontTaxi @CulpeperTaxiCab @FlyToDulles @LoudounCab @ZellaQuixote We've seen this network (or at least portions of it) before - at the beginning of September we found 32 taxi/realtor bots tweeting a variety of 2020 Democratic candidate hashtags as well as #MoscowMitch, and more recently we found 5 more mostly pushing Warren-related hashtags.
