When it comes to achieving financial freedom, being able to create is a superpower.

Here's a short story about why...

While the tone of the book can be off-putting to some people, the important thing I learned reading "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" is that you don't build wealth trading hours for money.

You need to *own* things that put money in your pocket every month.

In the book, they give examples like owning a shop, eventually hiring people to replace you in the day-to-day, then buying another shop, or buying rental properties where your rental income > the mortgage for the property, or owning stocks and bonds that pay out dividends.

This made a lot of sense to me when I read it, but I was left a bit discouraged. Where the hell was I supposed to get the money to buy a rental property?

Then I wrote my first book, Refactoring to Collections.

When I wrote the book, I wrote it because I liked the idea of having written a book, and putting something out into the world, not because I thought it was going to change my life financially.

But after the launch I realized something that did change my life.

The book I created was an *asset*, exactly like a rental property or dividend stock. It was something I owned the rights to, that put cash into my pocket every week, without me having to perform new work for that cash.

The difference was, all I had to invest was time, not money.

Being able to purchase cash flow assets like rental properties doesn't feel achievable for a lot of people.

But if you can *create*, you can invent cash flow assets out of thin air, no financial investment necessary.

Realizing that "stuff you make" is an asset class changed my life.

Now I own five of these assets (2 books, 2 courses, and a podcast), and as a result I get to spend all my time making more things, and being more financially successful than I ever was before as a direct result.

If you can create, you don't need to buy assets, you can invent them.

Being able to create is a superpower.
