Just heard from the Department that over 100,000 people have dropped out of the #Jobactive program. They are not tracked and the Department “assumes” they have gone into employment 🤔🤔🤔
45 minutes in #Estimates is not enough time to ask about #Jobactive, an employment programs which cost over $7billion & affects hundreds of thousands of Australians
#Estimates has revealed that 104,480 people on the #Jobactive program have not re-engaged with their job provider after having their payment cancelled.
The department is not tracking these people and they do not know their circumstances, they assume they are employed?
As I predicated, again and again, the demerit point system or targeted compliance framework (TCF) is impacting on the most vulnerable in our community who maybe going without income support because of this draconian system. #Auspol#Estimates#Jobactive
This is coupled with the fact that 43% of people on the #jobactive program have been found not capable by their capability assessment and 64% of those people had errors in their job plan.
This system is failing. Why can’t providers get a job plan together that meets individual needs, they are receiving billions of dollars in Government funding.
For 16 yrs I have had the incredible privilege of being a Greens Senator for WA. I will be forever grateful for the trust & support you have given me.
I want to let you know that my time in Parliament is finishing soon.
👇
I am extraordinarily proud to have been part of our Greens Senate team and the only party prepared to call out growing inequality and advocate for genuine climate action.
Leaving the Senate is not a decision I’ve taken lightly.
Being your voice in Parliament has been one of the biggest honours of my life. After more than 16 years, it’s time to hand on the baton.
👉WHAT IS THIS NASTY BILL?
The Streamlined Participation Requirements Bill will introduce digital employment services, for people on #JobSeeker, Youth Allowance, Parenting Payment and Special Benefit for nominated visa holders.
The Government is rushing to pass a bill that will make savings out of people looking for work and impact hundreds of thousands of people on income support.
*UPDATE ON MAKING A SUBMISSION TO #JOBSEEKER SENATE INQUIRY*
This week the Government introduced legislation that will reduce the coronavirus supplement to $150 per fortnight and extend the supplement to March 2021.
We managed to refer it to a Senate inquiry for scrutiny however we've only been given a small amount of time to conduct the inquiry as the Government wants to pass it before the end of the year and there are only two sitting weeks left.
I encourage people to make a submission to this inquiry. These can be submitted by individuals and organisations to send in their opinions and proposals about the bill.
It's so important we hear from the people who will be impacted by this cut.
When the COVID Supplement is reduced by a further $100 a fortnight on January 1, jobseekers, single parents, and students will be forced to live off payments of only $50 a day.
