#HappyHalloween from pegleg-productions.co.uk! @HeritageFundL_S project 'Searching for the Grey Lady: A Ghost from WW1 at the RNOH' explores the founding & evolution of @RNOHnhs thru archives, buildings, memories & objects. But we discover the Grey Lady ghost is not alone...
There are sightings of Roman soldiers in woods west of the Orthotics building, a'psychic echo' of a great battle in BC54 between Caesar's army & a tribe from the settlement 'Sullonicae' on Brockley Hill. In 1838, Mary Wardell, founder of the hospital named her house 'Sullonicae'.
The Obelisk, oldest man-made object on the @RNOHnh site is a memorial to this battle erected in 1750 by Mr. Sharpe, with inscription reading "Near this place once stood the stronghold & township of Suellani, a position splendidly fortified by nature & art". #stanmoreghosts
& a nunnery is also supposed to have once stood on the @RNOHnhs site: we have heard of a 'Grey Lady' who passes through the hospital grounds on Nov 13th...#whoisthegreylady#howmanyghostsarethere
& reported presences in the Louis Fleischman Concert Hall opposite the @RNOHnhs Orthotics building, originally built as part of the 'Crippled Boys Training College', now used by the British Orthopaedic Assoc Casting Course. Here's the old dressing room behind the stage:
As we continue to search for #TheGreyLadyAGhostfromWW1 other ghosts bring their history into our present, reminding us of the persistence of memories & stories within @RNOHnhs beautiful hilltop site. Thanks to Derek Sayers & @Short_E_Dee for their knowledge! #NationalLottery25
