The CDC is starting to share a bit more about what they know about Vitamin E in acetate. #vaping#vapingillnesses#CDC. A few interesting things:
1. The CDC coordinated with health officials from 10 different states (not including Mass.) to test specimens from 29 patients that had vaping-related illnesses. Vitamin E acetate was found in all 29 samples.
2. CDC says: "... It appears that vitamin E acetate is associated with EVALI; however, it is possible that more than one compound or ingredient could be a cause of lung injury, and evidence is not yet sufficient to rule out contribution of other toxicants to EVALI."
3. @NaomiMartin asked whether there's evidence of Vitamin E found in regulated products from state-licensed marijuana dispensaries. @CDCgov Principal Deputy Director Anne Schuchat said there are "a few" anecdotal cases but most illnesses are linked to informally sourced products.
4. TLDR: Federal health officials aren't prepared to rule out anything yet and aren't confident that legal, regulated vaping products are entirely safe.
