Chomsky joins 9/11 truthers & a convicted pedophile in an open letter to @OPCW, casting doubt on Assad's chemical attack on Douma. He has evidently learned nothing from his previous attempts at mass crime revisionism in Cambodia, Bosnia & Khan Sheikhoun couragefound.org/wp-content/upl…
@OPCW In spite of his apologia for mass murderers and his penchant for mass crime revisionism, this incorrigible scoundrel continues to be invited on @democracynow. As if Syrian, Bosnian, or Cambodian lives don't matter. alaraby.co.uk/english/commen…

I see some otherwise sensible people rightly upset by the unfolding catastrophe in Afghanistan making genuinely ignorant statements, drawing spurious links between events today and the heroic Afghan resistance to the brutal Soviet occupation of the 1980s.
This kind of commentary begins with conflating the anti-Soviet mujahideen with the Taliban, a movement that emerged 5 years after the Soviets left. Some mujahideen did become Taliban leaders, but most Taliban were orphans of the earlier war, and they fought against the mujahideen
A mythology was created, initially by leftist writers, that the Soviets were the innocents abroad, baited into invading Afghanistan by the machinations of the CIA and Zbigniew Brzezinski. This is nonsense, something that even the Soviets don't believe.
THREAD: On denialist zombies
Of all the attempts at mass-crime revisionism, this one is the most ridiculous. Grayzone boys are passing off an 8 year old conspiracy theory by two twitter trolls as a "new study" to cast doubt on the regime's responsibility for the 2013 sarin attack
The first thing is that there is zero doubt about what happened on August 21, 2013. The regime carried out a massive Sarin attack, we know where the attack was launched from, what weapons were used, and who they hit.
This shows that the Grayzone op is not rooted in ignorance or confusion, but is part of a sustained and deliberate disinformation campaign. Mate isn't just promoting this recycled nonsense, he is also reprising Seymour Hersh's discredited claims. lareviewofbooks.org/article/danger…
.@ninaturner's campaign has confirmed that it received thousands of dollars from a pro-Assad operative and added: "We continue to vet contributions to our campaign to ensure they align with our values." Does this mean its values include Assadism?
A Democratic Party contender accepting money from someone linked to the fascist SSNP is definitely not a good look. @ninaturner can't duck this question. Assad is the 21st century's biggest mass murderer. Does she condemn him?
If you are quoting or promoting any of the following, you are doing Palestinians a disservice. Because they habitually defend mass crimes & collective punishment elsewhere.
Ali Abunimah, Max Blumenthal, Ben Norton, Rania Khalek, Aaron Mate, Dan Cohen, Sana Saeed, Louis Allday.
Vijay Prashad, Caitlin Johnstone, Roger Waters, Jimmy Dore, Glenn Greenwald.
Or any of these outlets. Electronic Intifada (pro-Assad, anti-Uyghur); RT (pro-Assad, anti-BLM); Grayzone (pro-Assad, anti-Uyghur); Press TV (allround authoritarian); MROnline (allaround authoritarian).
Take one example. This group provides health services in both Gaza and Syria. Yet some of those pretending to be "pro-Palestine" smeared the same group as "Al Qaeda's MASH unit" when it was tended to the victims of bombings in Syria.
This is kind of hilarious and pathetic. Russia has been abusing the Arria Formula to platform a series of cranks in its effort to whitewash mass crimes in Syria. This poor fellow, who participated in the Kremlin's dog & pony show, thinks he "spoke to the UN Security Council".
One interesting thing about the Grayzone boys is that any time you speak about them, your mentions will be deluged with their supporters. People who are unaccustomed to such things get intimidated. What they don’t realise is that most of these are fake accounts. See, this sample.
THREAD: A case study in of how the Russia Today > Grayzone > Glenn Greenwald > Jimmy Dore > Tucker Carlson disinformation pipeline works to target progressive public figures like @AOC.
An employee of the Russian state media made the claim that she was visited by police after criticising AOC on twitter. She gave this as an example of the congresswoman's intolerance for dissent & pro-establishment ways. Except, there was no evidence AOC had anything to do with it
The story was quickly written up by Grayzone and Glenn Greenwald amplified it, and soon it was picked up by Jimmy Dore. All have huge audiences and soon a nothingburger was turned into a storm in the red-brown tea-cup.
