Two years ago today Iraq declared victory over Daesh.
It is thanks to the sacrifices of tens of thousands of brave & selfless men like Staff Lieutenant General Abdul-Wahab that Iraq emerged victorious. Today we honour them & remember our fallen brothers, may they Rest In Peace.
In 1980, two brothers, Haidar (4 years old) and Ahmed (2 years old), were separated in a Baghdad jail cell. Amazingly, four decades later, in Baghdad, they meet again:
After coming to power in 1979, the brutal dictator Saddam Hussein consolidated power by targeting any potential opposition. By the 1980s, Saddam’s thugs were rounding up people by the thousands on the mere suspicion of being in the then outlawed Dawa or Communist Parties.
In September 1980 a man suspected of Being a Dawa member was arrested along with his pregnant wife and two sons Haidar & Ahmed.

As the country whose supply is set to decline the most of all OPEC producers (year-over-year) because of the cuts that were implemented to stabilise the oil market, Iraq should have had a say in these discussions.

However, due to the weakness & lack of commitment by @AdilAbdAlMahdi + his Oil Minister to Iraq's best interests & to the sovereignty of the sector that is the bedrock of Iraq's economy, Iraq's voice is nowhere to be heard.

The previous government agreed in early April to steep cuts that are not commensurate with Iraq's situation. They got nothing in return, not even a seat at the table.

This the updated list of @MAKadhimi's proposed cabinet as of this morning. Defence & Interior to be decided later, as has been the case with the previous governments.

As Prime Minister-designate @MAKadhimi enters his final week to submit his proposed cabinet to Parliament, the latest list distributed to political parties remains in the negotiation stage as evidenced by the multiple names for certain ministries.
Thread to break down the Reuters shenanigans:
- the Ministry of Health has been extremely transparent by publishing daily COVID-19 updates detailing total infected, healed & deceased
- the licence suspension came from the National Communications and Media Commission of Iraq,
an independent body that’s not tied to the executive branch of govt. So you’re technically right when you say “the govt” but for the sake of clarity let’s ensure this distinction is understood
- the Reuters article claims 3k-9k COVID-19 cases vs the MoH figure that is less than
1500 as of today. I say the onus is on Reuters, not the MoH, to provide proof for this drastically different figure
- Reuters is notorious for sloppy reporting (2 incorrect wire stories in a single weekend in 2019 come to mind) & they use unprofessional wording (👇🏼 is an example)
