"arz-e-khuda" - khuda is used in urdu in complete equivalence with Arabic "allah", simply means "land of allah". This cd hv passed for a supposed meaning of "land of god", where god is not just Islam's particular definition if the "kaabe" and "but"[pronounced "boot"] wasnt used.
the first implies "exalted/throne/elevated place" and "but" is explicitly idol (Persianate Buddha->but), always used in Islamist narrative disparagingly, and a target for specific Islamist hatred and destruction. The excuse that Faiz was only implying Zia, makes Zia an "idol".
In Islamic representation, an "idol" is just an "image" with no agency of its own. If Faiz was going into symbolism, claiming Zia was just an image/idol with no agency of his own, went completely against the reality of Zia's Pakistan. Faiz makes sense only in Islamic mindset.
Faiz makes sense only if he is appealing in the well-infused-in-his-audience's language of jihad: that he wants them to treat Zia& his regime itself with the same hatred/liquidation demanded of in Islam ag all authority opposed to the founder of Islam, & his particular theology.
only Islam's god's "name will remain" was a common refrain of jihadis since foundation of Islam, implying erasure of all non-islamic ideologies. If Faiz was an "atheist" as claimed, and he only meant "Zia=hated idol", why wd idol's liquidation need jihadi erasure of non-islamic?
even if Faiz was well-intentioned, as claimed, he used the language of jihad - and this implies that he was appealing to Islamist theocratic sentiments in his audience, and he couldnt do without the same jihadi exhortation. Its this is what shd be remembered.
