How do you react when you put out a great piece of content and someone only comments on your looks?
My take is to block and without a big fuss 1.) If they don't value my content, they don't deserve my next piece of work. 2.) I conciously choose not to... 1/ @AcademicChatter
...draw public attention to it because it'd look like part of me wants their intellectual approval
I know it is controversial but I feel that public shout-outs make women look a bit insecure
If someone does not value my content, it is their loss, not mine. 2/ @AcademicChatter
Having said that, I do not judge other women who have different approaches.
I post this to add to the discussion, so that we can find the best approach possible.
So, more power to all women kicking butts every day.
I have been silent for some time about the current crisis in the US.
I was lacking words to express my feelings and I needed to learn more about white privilege before I voice a public opinion.
The things I have learned are in the thread below:
1/
In the past I got defensive when I heard "white privilege" because I felt it denied my achievements and the efforts that I put into achieving my goals.
Today I realise that white privilege is about the lack of obstacles I was facing on the way 2/
For example: For me it was a lot easier to focus on achieving my goals because I did not have to fear about losing basic human right like being arrested for no reason.
I never had to worry whether people might already consider my simple presence as a provocation
