#FaizAhmedFaiz is an overrated revolutionary like most of them are nowadays. No revolution came in the military theocracy of Pakistan even as he compromised principles of Marxism & added god to his poetry. Thanks to Iqbal Bano who turned his highfalutin words alive with her voice
Muslim Right Wing+Left activists are hysterically dancing with joy because they caught Aarti Tikoo Singh quoting Faiz & also criticizing him as a revolutionary! They clearly never learned it in school that it is entirely logical to both appreciate & critique a public figure. Daft
All the self-righteous people of some significance, who have libelled me over their ‘god’ #FaizAhmedFaiz, be ready for getting educated about the difference between criticism and libel in a court of law.

Thread #GunjanSaxena
My initial schooling, kindergarten to seventh standard (80s), happened at an Army Public School in Kashmir. In the last 2 decades as a journalist, I got many opportunities to watch India’s defence forces, closely. I also like watching war movies.
I watched #GunjanSaxenaTheKargilGirl on @netflix. Although all the actors have done a great job, the director/producer has subtly and sometimes even blatantly, converted it into a political project at many levels.
One, it portrays most Indian Air Force male officers of the 80s & 90s as obnoxious misogynists. Second, it shows most of #GunjanSaxena’s male colleagues in Indian Air Force as insensitive and ill-mannered douchebags.

For most part of his life Syed Ali Shah Geelani was Pakistan's biggest champion & most vocal spokesman in Kashmir. But nullification of Article 370 by @PMOIndia changed everything. Pakistan's Army & ISI dumped Geelani since he was of no use to them. Today Geelani QUITS Hurriyat.
So 90-yr-old Syed Ali Shah Geelani, at the fag end of his life, finally realizes the destruction he brought upon Kashmir in the last 30 years--got sons, brothers, fathers of common Kashmiris killed by terror groups for the sake of Pakistan Army. And what did he get? Sirf zalalat.
Understandable though; people before they die, are known to listen to their guilty conscience. Syed Ali Shah Geelani, finally heard his inner voice. But I am afraid Kashmir's history will NOT forgive him. He has gone down as the worst mass murderer in modern Kashmir for Pakistan.

The Islamic missionary Tablighi Jamaat which has done everything to bring disrepute to itself in India by being the ‘super spreader’ of Covid19 contagion, can hardly claim that its reputation is being maligned by media. Follow @ians_india’s BATTLE against a Jamaat’s member here.
Recent examples of #TablighiJamaat’s “glorious” reputation in India.

(A case has been registered against two members of Tablighi Jamaat for allegedly defecating in front of a room at a quarantine centre in Narela.)

In last 30 years, there hasn’t been a day when I didn’t think of lost home, childhood, family & our way of life in Kashmir. One chief minister & one media owner in Kashmir attempted to bribe me in exchange of shutting my mouth & not speaking the truth. I declined outright. 1/n
No hesitation today as well. @VVCFilms please do not trivialize ethno-religious cleansing of Pandits in Kashmir by calling it a “little fallout” between Hindus & Muslims. 1990 was the 7th exodus of Pandits from Kashmir because of their historical religious persecution. 2/n
Return of Pandits to Kashmir is not an option until clear laws are put in place to ensure that ethno-religious cleansing of Pandits in Kashmir is not repeated. Also, the government must present a return & rehabilitation plan to the community before a call is taken on it. 3/n

This lecture by S Raghavan on Article 370 is not only intellectually dishonest but also a very selective reading of history. Actually his argument is straight out of AG Noorani’s tendentious exegeses published in Pakistani newspapers & in his books.
1/n
Whole lecture is about ‘state of Kashmir’. Extremely unsettling when a scholar distorts facts. Kashmir is not a state. Jammu & Kashmir is a state. Kashmir was not a princely state, Jammu & Kashmir (including Ladakh) was. Kashmir did not accede to India; Jammu & Kashmir did. 2/n
J&K acceded to India using same instrument of accession (introduced by British in 1935) as other princely states but this lecture pretends as if only “Kashmir” acceded on special terms. Why did other princely states merge with India completely but Kashmir became a problem? 3/n
