Highlights from the Lenten reflections in my inbox this morn:
“[Suffering] is terrible, but can still be transformative. We bear this proof on our skin today.” blessedisshe.net/devotions/you-…
“...we’ve forgotten ashes are the result of violence & destruction.” mailchi.mp/f540c1536f36/b…
Seriously, subscribe to @IGsolidarityNET’s daily Lenten reflections if you’re looking for something to help you through #Lent2020. So good. The reflections + email sign up are here: ignatiansolidarity.net/lent-2020/ Disponible en español también.
This is perhaps the most perfect reflection for this election season.
Late getting to today’s reflections, but on the off chance anyone was still searching for something: Fourth Sunday of Lent | Timeless Light of Christ. mailchi.mp/fd97dce9415f/b…
As a result of my Lenten practice + WFH, I actually spoke to my Spanish house mom for the first time in years on her birthday. She was older & smoked when I stayed with her 14 yrs ago, she's super fearful about corona & almost fell out her chair when she realized who it was. Joy.
Sometimes you just go along with the daily readings & forget just how revolutionary what you've read is, for then & still now...Thanks, @JSTSCU!
This prayer was what I needed this morn...
“we are being offered during this pandemic the opportunity to embrace, in solidarity with one another, who we are, to serve, support and grieve with each other. As a Christian community Holy Week invites us to accompany Christ in the days ahead b/c he has first accompanied us...”
I keep seeing people talk about more time for xyz, & somehow I'm still feeling busy. Maybe just because busy has intruded my home. But anyway, this is a reminder to throw up boundaries & protect what's sacred, even once we return to the new normal. jesuitprayer.org/april-6-2020/
A reminder of what’s good about Good Friday: Death & division will not have the last word. Love does. And love is the most redemptive thing in the world.
*record scratch* Two Revolutionaries crucified alongside Jesus. How a different translation completely reorients the passage: commonwealmagazine.org/revolution-pas…@ruben6211 blowing my mind early this morn & I’m here for it.
So good: Resurrection’s power bursts through locked doors of coronavirus quarantines. cruxnow.com/commentary/202… Never tire of reminders that there’s always actionable steps to take, we can’t passively receive this message. Happy Easter, y’all!
And @PaxChristiUSA’s Bishop-President, @BpStowe, focuses on the greeting of “Peace be with you.” paxchristiusa.org/2020/04/12/an-… If that’s not a focus we could all use for Easter in the time of corona, I dunno what is.

Another 5-3 election case decided. This one features Kavanaugh vs. Kagan, in which he agues ballots postmarked by E-Day risk flipping the results, as opposed to, you know, just being a part of the count. electionlawblog.org/?p=117435 These folks...
Not only was Kavanaugh’s decision enraging, his work was sloppy. 1. About Vermont:
The alert that broke my phone. America was already going to be fixing this dude’s mess for years. The courts are forever changed by him. But another SCOTUS seat, Lord, have mercy.
Y’all don’t have to guess, Mitch already said if he had the chance he’d fill the vacancy this year. cnn.com/2019/05/28/pol… He cares not about consistency.
I’d avoided news of Daniel Prude’s death because I wasn’t ready. Today I listened to The Daily on it. It’s as rough as anticipated. nytimes.com/2020/09/08/pod… Anyways, I listened to this version of “Strange Fruit” halfway through because my heart was heavy. npr.org/2020/06/12/875…
So we’re clear, no one in the Rochester Police command staff was asked for their resignation. The chief & two others are retiring in protest. Two others are going back to a lower rank. nbcnews.com/news/us-news/r… The Mayor has stood by the chief’s actions the entire time.
Missed this yest: Rochester mayor relieves police chief ahead of his retirement, cites city review of Prude case. nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/ro… She also suspended the city attorney & her own communications director for 30 days without pay.
I slept when the baby did, so late to the shock. It’s only appropriate I learned from a text from Christian. When they say you never know what people are going through, this man right here. He made the most of his public facing time, & half of it while battling cancer. Just, wow.
I’m praying tonight b/c it feels the only thing I’m capable of. Police shootings are like mass shootings: very American, very upsetting, very unlikely that yet another incident will tip the scales into necessary policy changes. And Jacob Blake’s children witnessed that violence.
‘The rifle was being jerked around in all directions while it was being fired.’ Gunman kills two, wounds another during another night of unrest in Kenosha: chicagotribune.com/news/breaking/…
The appraisal of how little Black life is worth begins at birth, and never ends: miamiherald.com/opinion/opn-co… I hadn’t seen that newborn study, geez. The end gutted me.
