Several folks have pushed back saying they believe this NBC poll omission was done on purpose. I agree!
I just think the pressures on journos that cause this are more subtle, and more internalized, than "billionaires own the media and she has a wealth tax, QED"
(But I also don't think the corporate ownership aspect is irrelevant.)
Anyway, this reporting has now come out on the reasoning behind the poll, and I think NBC still has a lot of questions to answer.
Let’s also remember that this isn’t about Amy Coney Barrett being Catholic. It’s about her being a religious extremist who belongs to a small fringe group, People of Praise, that demands exclusive loyalty and obedience from its members and that many Catholics reject.
Plus? Joe Biden is also Catholic! Plenty of Catholics do not believe women must be always condemned to torture and/or death if something goes wrong with their pregnancy, even if that is technically church doctrine!
How do you sit there with those tapes, for MONTHS, and day after day watch Trump minimize and deny.
Day after day watch his followers taking his cue and starting culture wars over MASKS, for God's sake, as the death toll climbs.
HOW?
It probably wouldn't have improved the official response. It probably wouldn't have gotten Trump impeached again or otherwise held officially accountable.
But I have a very hard time seeing the culture wars going the same way if Trump is on tape admitting it's serious in Feb.
Caveat: It's important to note that this is the wording of the question: "Do you believe that the QAnon theory about a conspiracy among deep state elites is true?"
This wording doesn't touch the full scale of how nuts QAnon is. 1/
"Deep state" conspiracy rhetoric has been mainstreamed in the GOP, so maybe some voters are "just" responding to rhetoric they're familiar with from party leaders, and don't actually know enough about QAnon to know how nuts it is. HOWEVER: 2/
"Deep state" conspiracy rhetoric IS ALSO NUTS AND DANGEROUS, and its mainstreaming in the GOP is terrifying in its own right.
And it has clearly sown the seeds for way-too-widespread belief—or at least shrugging acceptance—in the GOP of the *truly deranged* QAnon cult. 3/3
I NEED y'all to witness the emotional blackmail I am subjected to every time I dare to get up from the couch to do anything other than play with him. 😂
(Sound up!)
AND, for that matter, the emotional blackmail I am subjected to WHILE I am on the couch but could theoretically be playing with him.
So for the last few months, I've had this *very* persistent and pretty dumb, but also seemingly sweet and well-intentioned, reply-guy in my mentions. Something seemed a little off about him, but I still engaged him politely on occasion.
Tonight...THIS arrived in my DMs.
For comparison, this is how he talked "in character." (I sent him a DM once asking him to stop spamming w/ identical messages or I'd block him. He was apologetic, so I didn't. He'd occasionally pepper my DMs with inane questions after that, most but not all of which I'd ignore.)
It's a little creepy, because it's clear all those questions he asked were attempts to...what? Hope I'd respond with something he could screenshot and share with his fascist buddies for the hatelulz? Hope he could build rapport and then break my heart when he revealed his SECRET?
I'm seeing two officers, troops, whatever they are with Blue Line flag scarves, two with skull scarves that I'm told might be RW iconography? That includes one wearing both. #DCProtests
Pics:
Some of these guys are labeled SORT, from Bureau of Prisons. Some are army. Some no idea. Not a name tag in sight. No interest in taking a knee with protesters who ask them to. #DCProtests
