There are so many lessons we are learning through this COVID-19 crisis about what matters. Who is important. Who we depend on. Most are inspirational - but take a moment to listen in this moment, and learn. Thread of interesting things I've heard over the last few days:
"Families of need are handling this well. They're problem-solvers and they have no choice. Families of means are yelling. They've lost control and they don't like that feeling."
Me: "In this moment, be civil to your front line workers. EMTs, public health workers, ER docs. They are stressed and have fewer resources than they need."
Constituent: "I work in a grocery store and I don't have gloves. Should I go to work tomorrow?"
Constituent: "I work in a grocery store and I don't have gloves. Should I go to work tomorrow?"
Hospital CEO: "Our doctors are about to be making decisions about who lives and who dies. They are stressed, with mental health challenges and we won't have the time or event the spare shoulder to help them."
Share stories if you can. Write them down. We are in a historic moment that - for all it's flaws - is reminding us how much we all depend on each other. The reasons we got here are painful. But there is beauty and love that will emerge from this if listen with empathy.
