America has proven time and again it can overcome even the greatest challenges and worst calamities without sacrificing our Constitution - but also each crisis tended to chip away a little of our inheritance, bend our system a bit without breaking it. We face such a moment again.
There are those who will try to make the temporary emergency measures permanent, those who will use an epidemic unleashed by an authoritarian regime to argue that we should become more authoritarian, those who say we must be smaller so the State can grow larger to protect us.
This is a time to reverse those toxic narratives, because they've cost us far too much. Today's horrifying unemployment report, with more horrors to follow, should be a clarion call that we cannot afford expensive statist indulgences and bloated, wasteful government any more.
Those unemployment numbers send a clear message: after the lockdown, we must begin the greatest expansion of our private economy the world has ever seen.

We need JOBS. We need growth. We can't afford parasitic taxes, smothering regulations, or pampered politicians any more.
We have to bring millions of people back to work - PRODUCTIVE work, labor worth more than the wages paid for it, jobs that create more jobs, ventures reborn from the ruins, markets coming back to life in response to surging demand, people banding together to pursue opportunity.
No more waste, no more graft, no more special interest snuffling at the public trough, no more politicians skimming millions from our work, no more outsourcing and offshoring, no more globalist fantasies. All of that ended when today's unemployment report hit.
What we need is an expansion as incredible as the contraction we have endured. What we need is a boom that boggles the mind. Hopefully many who were laid off for the virus can get their old jobs back. We must create new jobs for the others.
What we need is EACH OTHER. We have to find each other to work together, learn what is needed, fill the orders, find the opportunities. We can't do that with fat, greedy politicians and rapacious special interests in the way. We can't rebuild while we're being looted.
Politicians love to appropriate the language of capitalism and growth: taxes are "investments," make-work programs are "job growth," government benefits are "profit." No more. Not a word of it. We desperately need REAL investment, growth, and profits. Lives depend on it. /end
