Blame it on Delhi or central Government but no one foresaw what was foreseeable that there are around a million labourers, rickshaw pullers, daily wagers migrants in Delhi NCR who do not have a permanent job
These people don’t have savings, they live in rented rooms, some even homeless. There is no possible way unless preparations would be on war footing, that these people could stay here, may be in temporary camps and get food
Making temporary arrangement is a Herculean task, you need to maintain social distancing, clean place to sleep, toilets and then logistic for their food, medical & other daily needs. It has been a lack of foresightedness & now we are in a mess
Though the migrants from UP & Bihar are mainly in north India, specially Delhi & NCR, this problem may spread in other states specially in bigger cities where people from neighbouring states have migrated as labourers or daily wagers
No state or any government can ever be in a position logistically to feed lakhs of people and make temporary homes for them that too without any prior notice. Let’s stop blaming the govts on this issue & now urge them to make arrangements for their quick return, food & safety
I’ve stated many times that a much bigger fear and threat is approaching us - if lockdown continues, social economic imbalance will widen and homeless hungry people may retort to anarchy, looting & other crimes
Governments with the aide of NGOs must work very very fast on a big level to reach out to these people & help them before the things are out of control. The administration doesn’t have adequate infrastructure to deal in such a large scale disaster management
I’m not sure if this may work completely but definitively we should take help from our military and para military forces for assisting in setting up the infrastructure and carry on the act of whole disaster management. Act before it’s too late
