In today’s @cbcradio column, I’m talking about all the ways that people are mobilizing online to try to help out and do good, from open source designs for PPE to Google docs listing much needed hospital supplies, to community efforts to engage kids.

There are so many ways you can do good right now. If you want to help, here are a few suggestions:

/6
If you have the ability to help 3d print or sew personal protective equipment, most hospitals have open calls where they’re asking for those kinds of donations. Do a quick internet search to see what your local hospital might be looking for.

/7
It’s equally important to take preventative measures. The best thing we can do for doctors and nurses is to keep people healthy and out of the hospitals, which is why creative campaigns that raise awareness are so important.

/8
If you’ve got a smart phone and any social media account, you can do something… this might be a fun activity to do with your kids, too, since they’re home from school. Maybe get their class/neighbourhood friends involved, too.

/9
Finally, create opportunities for people to engage online. Whatever skill or hobby you have, offer to teach other people online. If you love books, talk about what you're reading with others. We’re all in the same boat staying inside to do our part. You can make it easier.

/10
Last but not least, keep in mind that while the opportunity exists to leverage digital tools to collaborate and truly help right now, not everyone has the same access.

/11
Not everyone can afford a laptop or personal computer to be able to regularly connect; rural/Northern communities have always had unreliable internet, and now that demand is greater than ever this is even more true.

/12
Many seniors who are isolated are shut out of opportunities to engage or stay connected to their families because they don’t have the ease with digital tools that other generations might take for granted.

/13
If you know someone who is older who may be struggling to get online/connect, try calling them to see how you can help out. It might be as simple as walking them through downloading an app or helping them reset a password they’ve forgotten. A small gesture can go a long way.
