Newsday reports that "The Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Con-ference says Zimbabwe has lost an opportunity in the past 40 years to redefine its his-tory, foster national healing & to end corruption, international isolation & to save the collapse of the country’s infrastructure." Why?
At Independence, we had a highly educated cabinet that compared favorably, man for man, with the best in the world. Yet, the majority of them did not have the courage of their liberation convictions to stand up to Ghukurahundi atrocities. Core values matter.
The rest of the country, apart from the victims and a few people, hardly stirred either. You cannot look away when the authorities repress your fellow citizens. When Zanu advertised car accidents & coffins on national television in election campaigning & as a warning against...
....voting for ZUM, we had a taste of things to come. ZanuPF did not care whether you were Ndebele or Shona. You were any enemy as long as you did not ululate to their empty slogans. Still the masses did not sit up & question ZanuPF rule.
Then came Murambatsvina &, apart from human rights organisations and the UN, our people carried on with their work. After all, the problem was "over there" in the townships just like it was "over there" in Matabeleland & Midlands in the 80s. When the chaotic land reform ...
...started after the people had defeated Robert Mugabe in the referendum, suddenly we saw the true nature of ZanuPF. Blue chip & other corporate CEOS were forced to sit in the sun at ZanuPF HQ, extortionate factory invasions were the order of the day & by the time...
Operation wavhoterapapi had ended, the entire country finally knew that our government was prepared to do anything to stay in power while engorging itself on the country's wealth, shamelessly flaunting mansions on hilltops &, recently, super cars.
When their leader, weakened by age, began to lose his bite, the factions crudely & viciously fought over the future spoils to the point where we had tanks in the streets. What did the masses do? Poured out in to the streets to celebrate round two, no lessons heeded from round one
Today, we are in the grip of a pandemic, we are launching appeals to the West, the same West that God is punishing according the our Minister of Defense, & there are masses of people who still defend ZanuPF. We are a country that should be...
...making our own ventilators, masks, medecines through a long established manufacturing capacity. We should be at the forefront of research & solutions for drought resistant farming, solar power generation. Yet our people live under patronage under command agriculture....
....queuing for seeds, food handouts when peasants in Europe have their own tractors, combined harvesters and clinics and pharmacies in their villages! When do we stop long enough to understand the source of our woes? When do we rectify this lamentable state of affairs?
When do we decide we are now going to change course, chart a new path, lift our people, our country out of regression & in to a bold new democratic & prosperous era. This is something we can do. You are at home with friends & family. Have the honest conversation now. It is time
It is time to be honest with ourselves, make family decisions to face the future. It is time to #FixTheFoundation & #RehabilitateZimbabwe Don't follow the crowds. Follow your conscience. Use the shutdown for an awakening. No one is watching you. There are no more excuses.

#ALifeOfSacrifice Since Independence, Zimbabwean parents have worked hard to invest in the education of their children. Some opened accounts with the likes of Beverly Building Society for years only to see value wiped away in a matter of days by Zanu's collapse of the economy
#ALifeOfSacrifice Those who managed to make it & graduate, could not find any jobs because ZanuPF's ruinous policies destroyed the economy. Families were forced to sacrifice quality family time & send their children off overseas. But first they had to sacrifice to find airfares
#ALifeOfSacrifice Those who made it to the diaspora are still sacrificing to bring family over or send money home to help those left behind at the mercy of a predatory elite that is looting the country dry at Olympic proportions. Cynically, diaspora is not allowed to vote
ZanuPF & the government's obsession with NGOs & their insistence on demanding work plans is yet an example of the systematic siege mentality within their ranks. Anyone who demands accountability is an enemy of the state, serves communities is treated with suspicion. Fear abounds.
Government that rules with an iron fist because it is afraid of it's own shadows. It is a sick situation with regime defenders openly & shamelessly back repression because they make a living off the backs of the people's misery #FixTheFoundation
The same regime that lives off foreign aid is petty & capricious enough to hijack aid handover ceremonies for help sourced by NGOs and individual Zimbabweans. Not content to deprive Zimbabweans of a living, they go on to create "support" schemes to further enrich themselves
#FixTheFoundation The world is fascinated by what is happening in the US because it is a superpower & because it regularly positions itself asi "leader of the free world". It is a test moment for American democracy. The democrats are moving to impeach Donald Trump for sedition
This is not about politics as some very conservative Republicans, like Liz Cheney, have indicated they will vote to impeach. The point being made is you cannot upend the constitutional order & hope to get away with it. There are dangers for the country & principles must stand
In Zimbabwe, when the ruling party was embroiled in a vicious factional fight, 9 out of 10 provinces voted against their then VP. After the coup, the same 9 provinces switched allegiances. Zero principle, adherence to the constitution. Worse, opposition leaders defended the coup
1. The Alliance for People’s Agenda is deeply concerned by the manner in which Hopewell Chin’ono and Jacob Ngarivhume are being unjustly treated by the government. We note particularly how justice is being denied and delayed in their court cases. @SADC_News #Zimbabwe
2. The two are entitled to the same constitutional rights afforded to the accused person in terms of Section 70 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe. We refer to the decision by the Magistrate Court disqualifying Hopewell Chin’ono’s lawyer. #Zimbabwe
