The Physical Divide

Digital is now cheap, it’s physical that is expensive.

70 years ago the cost of putting a bunch of transistors on a chip was astronomical. Now that’s cheap. What’s expensive is putting a bunch of people in a room.
In person is now expensive, due to travel bans, gathering bans, bankrupt airlines, lockdown, testing and screening costs.

And budgets are tight. And will be tighter.

So everything that can be done over the internet will be done over the internet.

A digital-first society.
It’s kind of amazing. 25 years ago the physical world was primary and the internet was the mirror. You had to minimize internet traffic.

Now it’s the opposite. The internet is primary. And you have to minimize physical traffic.
The more we need social distancing, the more we need social networking.
People want physical gatherings. But they are now at a premium.

So the most valued leaders will be those who can build and maintain green zones, regions without either virus or lockdowns.
