Myth: British "unwritten" constitution, is the envy of the world
Reality: It's not worth paper it isn't written on.

Time we started again, to define eg.
Who succeeds a Primeminister
Whether a coup is legal
Whether we have the democratic right of the Governed
Who is sovereign?
Do these sound obscure?
1. PM - it's bad enough, but imagine a natural disaster, an assassination, war. Do we vacillate while we decide who's next?

2. Well, it happened, but we had the courts to protect us. If they bypass them are prime ministers defacto dictators?
3. Amongst the important principles that right of the Governed enforces is the consistency of mandate. If a Government promises free school means but delivers Cornflakes, who rules whether there's a mandate?

4. Apparently the people, or parliament, or both. Whatever's convenient
None of these are particularly radical ideas to resolve in any normal constitution. In fact, the main reason for NOT resolving them in a constitution is to leave the door open for abusing them.

Have we not learned that?

That's not the country I wish to live in.
