My family was going through its worst financial turbulence of my life when the news of this child's accident got to me.
His mum walked in into my school asking for a job as a janitor when we didn't need one. I saw the school principal turn her away, but I asked what she wanted.

She narrated her pains caring for the ailing infant she carried on her back, alone. Getting the lad treatment was first thing, thereafter, I insisted she must be given the cleaning job. It turned out this woman is the most physically energetic woman I have ever met. She works!
As the boy grew, the possibility of him crawling into grown up students stampede made the school re-emhasize the safety risks of nursing an infant in the school, as she has done in almost a year, with excuse that her husband didn't keep his promise to provide money for daycare.
To bypass the school's directive, his mum contrived the idea of arriving early before any other staff of the school, to hide the him in the school's chemistry laboratory. He was barely a year old. On the day of the incident, he was laid asleep and locked inside the laboratory.
Long & short, the boy woke up, climbed the lab bench and poured on himself 98% Sulfuric Acid, while he was trying to drink from it, thinking it is water, as his lips were equally burnt too. The accident was downplayed when I was told on phone, and was told not to bother visiting.
The suggestion runs contrary to all I learnt about being a father. Without notice, my family immediately visited the boy at the hospital where he was on first aid. I had bouts of shock seeing him in an awfully, indescribable burnt state, with abscess oozing from all over him.
I find it hard to swallow the argument exonerating the business I own from such a grievous incident. Looking at my cash flow then, it was also very tempting to walk away and putting all the blame on the boy's mother, which she admitted was her fault. I wept like a child!
The fight for his life moved to LASUTH, Ikeja Burn Unit. I couldn't raise the initial sum needed for blood and some immediate surgery. With my accounts in red, and ranging legal battles with creditors, many impressed it on me to leave the boy in this dilemma, as its not my fault.
A week gone without a clue where to find money, I returned to LASUTH to hear a philanthropist walked in and gave money, that all accident emergencies should be attended to, which the boy partly benefited from. I was challenged, then decided to give everything I have for his life.
As my family rose to this challenge, creditors who were hell bent on forceful loan recoveries by themselves began to offer me renegotiation, and all manners of concession. This is him at almost full recovery. Medicine is a miracle! I can't afford to show the early stage pictures.
Diaper saved his genitals, but it took several months of skin grafting, replacement of failed graft, expensive skin cultivation processes, spread over months to restore this boy back to a fully functional state. If you are parenting, keep at it. God will not forsake you.
I cannot account for the unbelief of others, but I have benefited from an immeasurable grace no man can give. If you have a child you left a woman to raise alone, retrace your steps. If you're a father already doing all u can, an enabling grace to prosper shall seek u and find u.
