GIVE ME FOOD, FORGET THE VIRUS
Nigerians fear hunger more than they fear death. Nigerians will buy hope, and buy sex, before they buy safety. Pandemonium will likely start killing here, ahead of #COVIDー19, and I foresee a possibility of us crashing the economy ahead of time.
My fear stems from the unsystematic shutdown and proposed lockdown without a widely analyzed 'cause and effect,' and without FG's financial mitigations spelt out to all. Soon, Abia thats owing months of salaries too will join the bandwagon and send its workers home, empty handed.
@Olusegunverdict rightly stated that "hunger is as bad as #coronavirus." States and all commerce tiers in Nigeria are at various state of unwillingness to close doors to income. An event planner has four event bookings in Ibadan this weekend, whose clients have refused to cancel.
Majority of Nigerians earning salaries & wages are in a very terrible state of despondency right now. @cenbank If the Nigerian working class dont have money in their accounts to prepare for the impending shutdown, #COVIDー19 pandemic automatically becomes a secondary concern.
The N1.1 Trillion intervention announced by @cenbank is like flipping cash in the skies, with the fittest (banks & elites) struggling to jump the most, and grabbing the cash. By the time we'd return from lockdown, startups, and SME businesses will be in a complete state of coma.
We are asking businesses to shutdown, I haven't heard there's @cenbank circular asking banks to pause on loan deductions and accruing interests.
Oil production platforms and power stations will not shutdown. Do they have in place COVID-19 safe walls to ensure business continuity?
The presidential task force on #COVIDー19 should have considered a modelled iterative sequence of shutdown. These arbitrary announcements is a recipe for disaster!
Some FG's actions need fast track legislation but the national assembly is completely lost in the scheme of things.
@MBuhari's presidential taskforce on #COVID19 will fail woefully if the current lack of synergy continues, with Bauchi announcing closures of Maisuya today, and Anambra banning Chisco night bus from Lagos, tomorrow. The starting up will be more difficult than this shutting down.
