New topic, new thread: Board/commission appointments
Matt Califano, as the only Beverage Licensing Authority applicant, gets it.
Jennifer Shriver gets a 5-yr term on the Boulder Junction Access District board, again as the only applicant.
There were other applicants for each, but they were already appointed to other boards.
Board of Zoning Adjustment now. 3 applicants but one did not interview.
There is an incumbent: David Schafer, seeking reappointment. Council almost always goes with current members. It's notable when they don't. (Like in 2017 with John Gerstle and Planning Board)
He's the one who didn't show up to the interview, tho.
Weaver nominates him anyway.
Yates nominates Prentiss
Weaver withdraws his Schafer nomination, since he's been on BOZA for 7 years.
So Prentiss will get it.
Environmental Advisory Board now, which should be interesting. Two applicants: Susan Peterson (Yates nominates) who ran for council in November.

Peterson actually told council to appoint the other guy, Jason Unger (who Friend nominated)
Nagle wasn't at the interviews, but she's choosing to speak for Peterson. "She's shown herself as a strong community member."
I hope someone brings up that Peterson actually told council to appoint Unger.
Friend is!
Friend: "I reached out to (Peterson) and asked her if it was sincere. She said that it was. ... I would follow Susan's lead and appoint Jason."
Swetlik: Since Jason did apply for PRAB as well, I plan on voting for him there.
So Weaver is suggesting doing PRAB first "to see how that turns out."
There were 5 applicants; 4 interviewed.
Yates nominates Tara Winer
Wallach nominates Jason Unger
There are 2 seats available.
This is another board where applicants were asked how many meetings they watched/attended.
Unger said he had watched 3-4, but... PRAB is not video recorded. Just audio.
Possible he and others were confused, since it was a leading question, but...
So Unger and Winer get PRAB and Peterson gets EAB
Housing Advisory Board
Young nominates Daniel Teodoru (currently on HAB)
Joseph nominates Charlotte Pitts
Teodoru gets 5-yr term; there's a 2-yr term as well.
Corina Julca is nominated (Weaver doesn't say by who; this process online is a shit-show)
Nagle, of course.
Again, Nagle wasn't at the interviews.
Julca ran for council this past November.
She is a renter and Latinx.
Wallach nominated Howard Witkin.
Board lacks someone with practical experience building housing, Wallach says, which Witkin has. He builds market-rate affordable housing in Denver.
Young speaking to Pitts, who she and Joseph nominated: She works in the ADU industry, is a "fairly newcomer" to Boulder and involved in PLAN-Boulder.
Although she left the board "soon after," Young says.
Pitts is also a renter and lives in a BHP property.
Swetlik nominates Jennifer Livovich

And, he says, there are 2 ppl on the board with development experience.
Livovich was formerly unhoused. She gave a v impressive interview. I remember her.
Friend supporting her, too.
I hope when they vote, Weaver reads out who voted for whom. It was really hard to decipher the chat record from the last meeting.
Yates was going for Witkin... but changing to Pitts.
Brockett either for Pitts or Livovich
Livovich, actually, is who he is voting for.
"She has educated herself to an extraordinary degree on the current services" of housing, affordable housing, homelessness. "I've learned a lot of things from her."

Friend said similar things about Livovich.
1 for Witkin
1 for Julca
3 for Livovich
4 for Pitts
Runoff between Livovich and Pitts
Weaver not reading who is voting for whom. But I hear his (or somebody's) very loud typing.
5 for Pitts, he says.
Young saying she was impressed with Livovich (not impressed enough to vote for her, apparently....)
"Her skills and knowledge would fit a whole lot better with the human relations commission," Young says.
The fucking audacity. Council members just said she was so edcuated on housing! What makes her not qualified to the HOUSING ADVISORY BOARD!
Human Relations Commission
Brockett nominates Jean Hilaire Rejouis
Weaver nominates Fred Smith
Rejouis is one of the handful of people of color who applied.
Fred Smith ran for city council back in the day. Grateful Fred, he is called.
Crap I have lost my feed again!
Man I missed who got it. Anyone? Some help.
Library Commission now
Yates nominates Benita Duran, who ran for council in November.
I think Weaver nominated Scott Steinbrecher, who served on the Lafayette library commission
Steinbrecher gets it
Again, not sure who voted for whom, except for Weaver, who announced his vote for Steinbrecher
This is a terrible way to do board and commission appointments, IMO
University Hill Commercial Area Management Commission - 2 applicants for 2 seats. One has to be a resident; the other a property owner.
Andrew Shoemaker and Gwynedd Bailey are the applicants.
Shoemaker was once on city council.
Bailey works for The Sink.
They both get a seat, obviously.
Arts commission is the last one. 8 applicants; 6 interviewed
Brockett nominates Georgia Schmid
One of the only applicants of color for all 21 boards; she came from California.
Yates nominates Christoper Carruth
He's a CU prof. Yates says we don't get CU folks often, so he wants to encourage that.
Schmid gets it.

That makes 2 POC appointed across all 21 boards and commissions this go-round. I forget how many seats; I'll check that for the story.
I think that's all for tonight. Thanks for watching ya'll! Next week I'll try to call in (if they let me) bc the feed is unreliable.
