“I pause to stress that I am not belittling the threat of the virus, particularly to people who are especially vulnerable — the elderly and those with underlying health problems, especially respiratory problems. The question is one of balance.” 1 nationalreview.com/corner/coronav…
Very few commentators are as balanced and thorough as @AndrewCMcCarthy. He does his homework. He has done so again. I do not have an opinion on the models and see a lot of merit in a bias towards overreaction in face of pandemic, especially given “second wave” possibility. 2
The “second wave” in 1918 was deadlier than the first. Dr. Fauci told me that there is no scientific basis for predicting whether the virus will become more virulent or less. So prudence suggest hope for best and prepare for worst. 3
But the questions raised by @AndrewCMcCarthy and others like @AlexBerenson, @brithume and serious journalists are not conspiracy theories but questions, and they could be —should be— posed of Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx. There was lots of good news in today’s briefing. 4
But there are lots of questions that could be asked of the doctors who have demonstrated nothing but good faith and accessibility. The media with access to them need to prepare more and focus more on these key questions. 5
