04/09 COVID-19 Trends

1. World - 1,595,229 cases (+84,229 today), 95,444 deaths (+7,117 today). Notice the cases trend line has started to flatten out some, but the death trend line is still headed up 😞
2. Countries per 1M - Iceland sets the pace, testing 10% of their population, finding the most cases per 1M, on a 5.05% positive case rate. But with all those cases, their mortality rate is 17th, at 0.36%. Let's contrast with the United States.
The US has tested 0.68% of our population, which places us 19th on those countries with the most cases. Even with that testing rate, the US ranks 9th on Cases per 1M (1,394) with a 20.61% positive rate, and we rank 10th in Deaths per 1M (49.78) with a 3.57% mortality rate.
3. Select Country Trends - The overall growth rate is nowhere near the 33% exponential growth that was there in the early stages of the virus, but the numbers continue growing.
4. US - 461,437 cases (+32,385 today), 16,478 deaths (+1,783 today). After three days below 30k daily cases, we've got two in a row back above 32k. Deaths have been above 1,750 three days in a row.
5. States per 100k - New York has tested 2% of the population. They have tested the most per 100k with 2,012.
Texas has tested 0.3% of the population. They are 51st in the country in testing per 100k with 366.03 (this includes the District of Columbia). Texas ranks 39th in Cases per 100k with 38.65 (a 10.56% positive rate) and 42nd in Deaths per 100k with 0.72 (a 1.87% mortality rate).
6. Select State Trends - California and Washington continue to trend lower than everyone else. Broad trend is slowing, but a ton of cases are still coming in every day.
7. Texas - 11,208 cases (+1,431 today), 210 deaths (+21 today), 106,314 tests (+9,876 today). The daily case count is a far and away all time high. The previous daily high was 882.
8. Texas Counties - Top 5 counties for Cases are Harris (3,407), Dallas (1,432), Tarrant (637), Travis (597), and Bexar (554). Look, hospitalizations may be down, but the cases keep showing up, day after day, and when you look at the overall, creeping up.
We now have 17 counties above 100 cases, 70 with 10 or more, and 175 with at least 1. Four counties have lost 20 or more Texans, 52 have lost at least 1.
