On April 5, I tweeted about an Indian-owned hospital on Victoria Island housing two Indian patients with symptoms that could POTENTIALLY be COVID19-related. I have the final updates for you.
1/7
2/7 After the tweet, @TundeIrukera, the DG of @fccpcnigeria, personally visited the hospital. One of the outputs is that the more symptomatic of the two patients was quickly tested by the NCDC.
3/7 The result came back negative, meaning everyone in and around the hospital can now heave a sigh of relief knowing they’re not at risk.

While the test result gives the hospital a clean state, the feedback I received from the FCCPC DG leads to the point that...
4/7 ...the hospital indeed could have alerted the authorities much earlier. It’s a different case if the NCDC couldn’t test; but once a patient presents COVID-19-related symptoms, without prejudice to the prerogative of the treatment plan...
5/7 ...every hospital ought to involve the NCDC immediately, especially for public health reasons such as containment and contact tracing. Once a patients fits a symptomatic profit, and has an implicated travel history, the govt should immediately be notified.
6/7 If this particular hospital had done this, for example, more would have been known about a previous patient who presented POTENTIAL COVID-19 symptoms but died in his home before testing.
7/7 What is clear is that from now, this hospital would behave differently, more responsibly, should it find itself in the situations we reported.

It’s the least the citizens deserve in these times.
