Should you vote for candidates who aren't really good because they're the lesser evil? Usually it's nationalists facing this question, but now the far-left is in the same pickle with Biden. I think it's not a matter of strategy but a matter of short term vs. long term benefit.
->
In short term the far-left would be way better off with Biden since he's the one of the two choices available who they'd have a best shot advancing their cause with. But that would also land them in a problem in the long run, because they'd be sending a certain message there.
->
The message being, that we'll vote for you even if you're useless, if the candidate running against you is even worse. That doesn't put any pressure on the party establishment to please the far-left. They get their votes anyway, so better to go with a mainstream candidate.
->
So they'd be reasonable to expect that the democratic party doesn't put much focus in pleasing the far-left in the future, either. Why do it, when the mainstream candidates do well enough? And that is why I changed my opinion about this question a couple of years ago.
->
I used to be for voting for lesser evil, but in the long run it doesn't get us anywhere. We'll just be dealt with more useless candidates. But if you vote only someone who's deserving, it sends a better message: get your shit together or lose support.
