An appreciation thread
A ton of people from all over the city (Huntsville, Alabama) have been 3D printing face shields for doctors, nurses, and other frontline medical workers.
Every day without fail, a crew of nurses and dental hygienists have been coming in to check, clean, disinfect, dry, and safely package the parts into kits for frontline medical workers. Many are currently without work due to office closures and are selflessly donating their time
Over the past week we have forged a unique bond. Everyone is volunteering, and everyone understands the mission. They are all making personal sacrifices with no intention of ever receiving recognition. My favorite kind of people.
A core group has been handling both communication within our 500 volunteer team, as well as coordination with the city, hospitals, doctors and other organizations. Jennifer, Carson, Matt, Alyson, Sandy, and Tara (S&T not in photos) have been making it happen!
I’m still not 100% sure how food shows up every day without fail for our social distancing lunches (everyone gets their own table). I know it has something to do with rockethatch.org, but that’s about all I know. So thanks if you’ve fed us.
The injection mold operation is a whole different story. Chris and Jeremy worked around the clock to design & make a super precise mold suitable for making a medical grade polypropylene part every 30 seconds. These guys are injection molding craftsmen.

Engineering quotes are a way to communicate the intentions of a company. Although they were busy, The Robson Co gave us the “our medical community in danger let’s get this done ASAP” quote. They impress me. I’d like you to hire them in the future for your injection molding needs.
Now that the mold is working, a team of people (mostly engineers and machinists) who have been at home for two weeks or more are working 4 hour shifts at the injection molding machine to make over 3,000 parts every 24 hours.
I’ll keep adding to this thread tomorrow. There’s a couple of photos I want to capture that I don’t have yet regarding visor production and distribution.
