I have thoughts about the @SpaceX anomaly.
(rewriting this to remove my speculation)
1) I've seen rockets blow up for a lot of different reasons. Solids blow up because propellant grain cracks, liquids blow up because of leaks/runaway pressures... tons of reasons.

2) I don't know what happened in this case, but either way this obviously isn't something you want on your rocket.
3) Many articles I'm reading are painting the event as a very negative event, trying to make me feel sad/bad about this anomaly.

4) This is literally why rocket testing is a thing. I did similar work for 15 yrs and crazy stuff happened all the time. Murphy's law is a thing... and Test Engineers work to help design engineers ""Murphy-proof" their designs.

5) As @NASA administrator @JimBridenstine said earlier, this is an opportunity to "learn and make adjustments"
6) The test was successful. Whatever design flaw existed was going to persist until engineers uncovered it. It is now uncovered. The design will be more Murphy-proof

7) This is awesome because it means the vehicle will be safer when our brave astronauts are on board.
8) I made this video explaining my feelings about some non-test failures in 2015:
9) I feel the same way about this event.

10) All this being said, space is hard. At some point human lives may be lost. We should accept this risk NOW, and agree that it's worth it so we're emotionally prepared. Our future decisions should be driven by engineering test data and not emotional/political reactions.
