Why I’m moving on from NMPolitics.net nmpolitics.net/index/2020/04/… Heath is not someone with whom I agree about public policy. That does not mean his opinion is not to be heard. I have often been one of those conservatives who have been decidedly opposed to the positions
taken by Mr. Haussamen. And I could spend a significant amount of time enumerating the public policy differences we have had over time. But that is not what I have read in the above post. What I read today was a narrative of man reflecting on his efforts in the arena of
solving problems using skills he has spent a lifetime honing. I am thankful for the times @haussamen has published my thoughts. He has never challenged by integrity. He has never made an effort to publicly or privately humiliate me. We have had "exchanges" in sense
that his public policy positions did not agree with my desired outcome. What is true about my experience with Mr. Haussamen is that many of the opportunities to express my praise or discontent with a leader's idea were possible because of his willingness to engage. Thank you.
I know that the paychecks for that willingness have got to be small. The principle of robust public discourse probably has not manifest itself in terms of a bank account or a retirement program. I will say that it is truly evident in your self reflection. We all go through
such periods. Some better than others. Reading this missive by Mr. Haussamen reminds me of the same outdoors experiences of my own. I am a fly fisherman. I enjoy time on the San Juan River. I have hiked Wheeler Peak with my son. I have had altitude sickness from that trip.
I have taken horses and my family to the head waters of the Pecos River. I still have a duster that only saw duty during those 5 days. I will put it work again someday. Mr. Haussamen has encouraged me to go back out to those places where God's canvas is most grand. I am
thankful for the effort and the product of your skills. I know that your fundamental rights have been, and will continue to be on full display. I am thankful for the concern, care and work that you have for your family. It is encouraging to see these traits listed
as the focus of your self reflection. Many in our society today do not go through these kinds of processes. We need more thoughtful people like you in our state. I do not always agree with the direction of your public policy positions. I am enriched because you provided
a venue for those disagreements. It is local. It will continue to be the most important venue. Your principle of engagement is not diminished because you have new horizons ahead of you. I look forward to seeing more of your work. Thank you sir. And God Speed.
