How is leaving without a deal because we didn't have time to reach one at the height of a global crisis more uncertain than extending for the time taken to reach one?
That said unlike many commentators I take the government at their word, and think leaving transition at the end of the year without a trade deal is now the most likely outcome. A full hard Brexit asap is at this point more important to them than the coronavirus crisis.
Dmitry has some questions on the rationale behind the decision not to extend transition...
We have a @pmdfoster thread to mark the occasion of the UK government saying there will be no Brexit transition extension (Peter is of course the twitter laureate of Brexit). He, er, isn't impressed. No progress has been made...
The Brexit-ultras will be so excited to have me, Peter, Dmitry criticising today's UK government line on Brexit transition extension. See, they'll say, the EU is worried, their paid shills in force... like we couldn't possibly (without bribes) reach conclusions independently...
