.@GeoffRBennett Spain/Italy testing per capita is almost the same as Germany but have very high deaths.

NY tests way more than other states and deaths here are sick.

Germany tested only 1.7 million; hardly close to a 650K tests a day rate.

“Testing” is a buzzword. ENOUGH!
.@GeoffRBennett At this point, Germany tested only 2% of its population. This is hardly large enough to explain why their deaths are low and why they are opening up soon. Maybe a really early closure for a few weeks helps. But not how/when Italy/Spain (NY/NJ) did it. These
lockdowns keep companions away from hospitals; leading to patients being neglected and it leads to their death too; especially older ones. This is not hyperbolic talk @GeoffRBennett. Let’s get off of these buzzwords and lets fix problems where it matter most: HOSPITALS!

Death rates are deaths relative to known cases. Why would you think that a country’s known case count is really all the cases that a country has? Most countries tested only a 1 fraction of their population. They have easily 5-10 times the amount cases that the limited tests show.
.@vicjkim March 23-24 NY tested 25,190 in total for those two days. 10,497 (42.6%) of those were new cases.

On April 14th alone NY tested 26,869 people and 11,571 (43.0%) of those were new cases.

Summary: Known case count merely reflects testing levels. Up it and you’ll C more!
.@vicjkim 39.6% (236,732) of all NY tests (596,532) through April 17th are positives. I doubt highly that 40% NY has Coronavirus (they test only those with symptoms), but to think that NY has only 236K cases now (or S Korea its own known case count) is inaccurate.

Trump said the above, two days after Cuomp said: "FEMA says we are sending 400 ventilators. What am I going to do with 400 ventilators when I need 30,000? You pick the 26,000 people who are going to die because you only sent 400 ventilators!”
I live in NY and lives here are turned upside down due to Coronavirus and due to the policies implemented because of it, so while the debate between Trump/Cuomo may seem amusing it has real consequences and they need to see I2I. Please read this thread:

0.57% to 1% is lower than the 3%+ assumption that led to the lockdowns.

The 11,477 includes many “probable” cases; not actual. (Thats from your above tweet).

As the deaths rise so do the cases count; CFR will not necessarily rise above 1%.

Only 10% dow/tri-state area has it?
I did not spend much time on the fact that many Covid-19 deaths are not lab-tested; it’s people who officials assume died from Covid.

NY added 3,778 “probable” cases to its death count. This is more than 10% of the UNITED STATES count which is at 33K when counting those 3,778.
Before those 3,778 probable cases, NYC had 6,589 confirmed cases. So the probable count adds 57% to the known case count for NYC and more than 10% for the US count.

Data like these drive lockdown decisions.
