Today we're talking about the FOUR Core Principles about what it means to truly #DisruptTexts.

.@juliaerin80 urges us to continuously interrogate our own biases if we are going to do the worm of antiracist teaching: where did your beliefs come from? how did you become socialized into ways of thinking that marginalize others?

We must confront ourselves. #DisruptTexts

All knowledge—including our values, attitudes and beliefs—is socially constructed. How have you reflected deeply about who you are and what you know? How will you use this reflection in service of disrupting racism and supporting ALL of our students? #DisruptTexts

We share the #DisruptTexts principles bc we believe this work must be addressed in systems wherever bias & racism live (i.e. everywhere).

If not, you participate in a historical pattern of stealing the intellectual labor of BIPOC.

If all knowledge is socially constructed, then we can help students identify & name this construction. How are characters treated by authors? Resist universalism that ends up defaulting the "human experience" to the experiences of White ppl. This is erasure. #DisruptTexts

Here, @triciaebarvia challenges us to think beyond traditional reader response to make it CRITICAL reader response: How does who I am inform the way I read & respond to texts? When we can identify how we might be socialized to respond, then can we start to get free. #DisruptTexts
