@theAliceRoberts ALICE THEY'RE DOING AQUATIC APE AGAIN MAKE IT STOP.
@theAliceRoberts Briefly, the Aquatic Ape Hypothesis is not a plausible nor parsimonious scientific theory. All of the supposedly specific adaptations to a semi-aquatic lifestyle are more readily explained by other means.
I can't be bothered to go through them one by one, the religious devotion to these zombie arguments are debunked everywhere.
But there is also no requirement for an overarching theory that explains multiple human traits, many of which may not even be adaptations at all.
Different traits emerged over millions of years, and an umbrella theory is not needed.
Furthermore, we now think that humans evolved in many different places in Africa, and Homo sapiens is a sort of pan-African gestalt species, not adapted to any singular or particular ecosystem, rather we are adapted to be adaptable.
Anyway. It's a theory that fails at every hurdle, and always has done since the 1960s. It's a set of just so stories, ones that might appeal to common sense. But science is the opposite of common sense.
Here's a thorough debunking from @theAliceRoberts and @ProfMarkMaslin
