I’m not very familiar with the relevant etiquette, so I’d love someone to tell me, is it normal for the Defence Chief to appear in a peacetime Whitehall press briefing in actual combat gear? Something about it seems quite weird.
The consensus from people with a connection to the military seems to be that, yes, they’re an officer’s ordinary everyday working clothes.
But I also agree entirely with this. This isn’t a military operation - it is the political head of the forces who should be speaking to journalists.
