What does his health have to do with his mood being cheerful or ebullient? "He's recovering very well. He is heart-broken about the loss of life, sends his deepest sympathies to the bereaved and is determined to get back to work as soon as possible". Same info, but RESPECTFUL.
Hancock is the fourth minister to describe the PM's mood as "cheerful" or similar in the last few days. Why does everyone think this is some sort of necessary statement, rather than the truth? Is it not possible that people keep describing him as full of cheer because HE IS?
Find me one occasion from his past, that demonstrates Boris Johnson's mood is impacted by anything that is happening to anyone other than Boris Johnson?

Daily, I watch four #Covid19 briefings. Daily, I call out the UK's for lacking seriousness and sombreness, only to be told I'm being biased, negative, unpatriotic, etc.

Have a look.
There's an internal sadness from knowing thousands are mourning loved ones; a crushing weight that comes from it happening on your watch.

Then there's the faux-sadness of a bad TV Breakfast host, who knows after the 3-minute cancer item, they can cheer right up for fashion tips.
Maybe I'm extra sensitive because of my profession, but I guess what has bugged me, all this time, is that - with very few exceptions - I have seen no real, heartfelt emotion in the UK briefing at what is happening. Only bad actors, coached how to behave, *demonstrating* sad.

For a second day this week, Greece has zero #Covid19 hospital deaths. Total remains at 130. Overall increase in mortality rate (so incl care home/community deaths) is so small as to not be statistically significant. So, go ahead and tell me how early, strict lockdowns don’t work.
Also, special measures and curfew for my little island lifted from tomorrow - no more cases, were found after intensive tracing and testing the contacts of the cluster of five and one death caused by the arsehole priest doing secret church services. HURRAH! We can exercise again.

Guardian leak intersects with Sunday Times leak. Not only was Cummings a potentially distorting filter of the SAGE advice. Johnson absented himself from COBR - the forum where the advice is explained. So his actions were informed, not by the science, but Cummings’s version of it.
It’s a double-whammy. A PM who kept himself, either deliberately or negligently, clueless on the biggest existential threat facing the country, led by an adviser notorious for pseudo-science and half-understanding, allowed to insert himself and contaminate the scientific process.
And this is why the UK will end up with the highest death toll outside Trump-addled America, even though we were one of the countries blessed with the most information and ample time to prepare and react.

Let the headbangers, headbang. This is all there is to it, in the end.
