SmileBASIC 4's out today in countries outside of Japan—this is the latest version of the BASIC coding app that's been around since the DS days and the addition of USB keyboard/mouse support makes it a million times more practical

game sharing's done via server & that's where it gets a little complicated: in short, the base game lets you download games every 8 hours & doesn't let you upload anything, if you want upload slots & unlimited DL you need to buy a server key (or multiple if you want more slots)
I believe it'll include a server ticket by default overseas but I can't check for myself atm

as you might expect, there's a ton of neat Japanese games already out there—again, can't list em all right now but I'll drop a ton of em on y'all tomorrow
one quick recommendation: nROGUE REMAKE, the latest version of neko800's long-running Petitcom Rogue conversion, made with several collaborators including Battle Garegga dotter Shinsuke Yamakawa

public key: [4KKQ3N3Q4]

(EN version's coming!)

alright, back at it!

there are a ton of shooting games for SmileBASIC (including Smileboom's own GIVERS P3D, which I also recommend) and this might be the most polished of the lot: Reflection Force! [4EKE334XF]
the Libble Rabble-inspired Rainy Day Collection by kunisan! [4JB84834E]

he's made a lot of SmileBASIC games, including a few old conversions from his X68000 days, so check those out if you like what you see youtube.com/channel/UCX-Zb…

Dr. Arazawa's extremely understated overhead run & gun, RANDOMAZE SHOOTER [4NKPQV344]

(he's also responsible for the explosions on the recent versions of nROGUE, incidentally)

Yunobi's TISHOOT, the most true-to-life quick draw game you will ever play [4KK842EKE]
here's footage from a work-in-progress PC-8801 emulator for SmileBASIC—it requires a third-party program to transfer files to/from PC, instructions here 🇯🇵

several PC-8801 games running in the emulator

[4EDKE2EAV]
THE Beginning OF LEGEND, a tribute to a certain arcade game [4DRN3K3NV]

(the programmer, Yoshiharu Takaoka, is a prodigious programmer who, among other things, programmed the PC Engine STG Coryoon as a teenager)

there are a lot of SmileBASIC rhythm games out there, most inspired by one arcade game or another... this one (MusiqA) is the most impressive I've played so far [4EKX4Q334]
speaking of SmileBASIC emulators... 🤫
here's a devilish SmileBASIC puzzle game built around 3D dice-like objects [4KNEW2KV]
in Japan, Sega's offering an OG Sonic asset pack for use with SmileBASIC, so the creator of Reflection Force has been challenging himself to make something using only those assets... he ended up adding some extras & it became a tribute to another Sega game
...and that's all I have time to add for now, but if you check the tags #petitcom #プチコン4 #smilebasic #sbkey you'll find plenty more programs to try for yourself
alright, back at it!

SmileBASIC 4 lets you download games made with SmileBASIC 3DS but they require manual modification to run on Switch

...or you can just try utrmagure's conversion program!
latest JP ver. [44AAD23Q3]
latest translated EN ver [4ZSD1EAD]
here's a no-brainer SmileBASIC 3DS game worth checking out: OBONO's conversion of the original PICO-8 version of Celeste [5VXN8AE]
another SmileBASIC 3DS game I really liked: neko800's LEFT RIGHT UP DOWN YOU & ME, think Ballon Fight x Ice Cold Beer [7REYQ3L4]

not only did this game get a Mega Drive conversion, it's also being expanded for an official commercial release

(there's also a Mega Drive conversion, programmed by kunukunu777, here's the ROM dropbox.com/s/y5pcprmnvp83… )

one more 3DS game converted to SmileBASIC 4: the fighting game Arcanum Stone, originally developed by Yukio Hirai and maintained & expanded over the years by sou51 [4N32NQPPY]
